If you can find a second hand crashed bike it will be better than anything else.

For going through mud holes I think you'll want a water cooled engine. Lots of revving while stationary = overheated air cooled engine.

That's a really good point. One of them would b pretty expensive tho wouldn't they?

Not always. Here in Australia we have bike auctions where damaged bikes are sold off by insurance companies. I bought a 2007 GS-500f bike for $1000 with less than 6,000 miles. This may seem like a lot but after selling the bits I didn't need it ended up costing me $0 for a great, almost new engine + brakes, chain, sprockets, wiring, twin mikuni carbs etc. for my kart.
In the US from what I've seen you can get much cheaper bikes. I'd check out craigslist and ebay every so often for bikes.

Go on your local CL multiple times a day. Lots of people just sell stuff to get rid of it and make space. Also, check with any local scrapers and auto repair shops in your area. They can help point you in the right direction if not cut a deal on site.

1000 is a good bit, I don't even have a welder yet. Or any of the materials to build a frame. But having a big motorcycle engine on a cart would b insanely awesome. I only make 135 a week though is the problem.

Also ill look around, thanks

old briggs sell on ebay for really cheap too ($20-$50) so they may need to be totally rebuilt but if you got the time you can do that.

How much for rebuild kit for one of them? I'm completely capable to rebuild one but I don't want a fortune rebuilding it

most parts you can just wash/clean and re use.

rebuild kits may be around 60-80 bucks and the more expensive ones come with a piston.

you're better off making your own gaskets from a cereal box (except for head gasket)

type in the model # in brigg's website and you get a list of all the parts and gaskets.

if you have a dremel they are real good rebuilding motors, (cleans out carbon) and powerwashing the block makes it look brand new. if you paint the block get some high temp paint.

id like to add some performance parts anyways so that sounds like a good route to go. how much a dremel run me?

High temp paint not necessary and is a waste of money.

agreed. 99 cent wal mart paint would do the job in my opinion. looks dont really matter considering it will be covered in mud. the high temp paint is expensive!! Plus i got the 2000 degrees i think is what it was and painted the manifolds on my jeep, the stuff aint worth a ****, and i paid almost 10 dollars a can i believe.

Yeah. No kidding! I painted my homebrew Cherry Bomb with a can of high-temp red that ran me $15, supposed to be good for 2500*, followed the instructions explicitly, and after a combined 2 hrs of run time, the bloody thing's nearly brown! What a PITA! What's a guy gotta do for a red muffler- the thing came out dead perfect when I fabbed it and a cherry bomb has to be red!:furious2:

Yea the 99 cent paint actually lasted longer than the high temp.

Update on engine situation, might be buying a Honda vf750 complete bike for 250. Engine runs fine and transmission does 2. Looks good for the year. I'll let Yall no what I get
