For .010 oversize or so, yes, you could hone it. Anymore and you'd need some boring heads.

You tried to straighten that huge shaft (lol) with a hammer, with the crankshaft still IN the engine?

obtw, sounds liek it seized.

Everyday machine shops? I'm talking about actual high dollar diamond hones made for REAL honing. Not your spring loaded paddle hones. "REAL" hones will keep your bore straight while "boring" it out a tad. People hone out half of .010 on a daily basis for boring... get it close, hone the rest.

Honing is NOT used to get to the next bore size.
Boring is used to get to the next bore size.
Honing is for restoring the original surface for oil control.

Where do yo guys get this stuff?
:iagree:

Trying to remove much more than 0.001~0.002" with a hone will leave you with a barreled or out-of-square bore. Machinists (the good ones, anyway) will "sneak up" on the measurement for an overbore (0.010" over, for example) by boring to 0.009", leaving 0.001" for the hone. If your machinist is boring to 0.005" and honing the remaining 0.005", take your parts somewhere else.

As for the OP's engine, I can't say for sure that your engine is seizing because you left it outside, I'd be willing to bet you haven't even checked the oil since it smoked out last time you ran it, but regardless it's probably time to tear it down.

I have a feeling this engine will end up in pieces in a scrap bin somewhere.

i left it outside because my dad made me. my last engineft the whole house smelling like gas, but it wasnt exposed. i had it under my kart, which is ndera tarp. the shaft is getting minor amounts of surface rust but nothing big.

what i was thinking was to take the side cover off and remove what could be damaged by fire then go back to the machine shop and have them try to straighten it out.

or if one of you would be so kind as to find me the crankshaft for this on ebay or something i could jus buy it

i havent gotten a chance to check the cylinder yet, will be on the top of my to do things tomorrow. How risky is it to take the motor apart?? i was thinking of just taking it apart and removing the crank, then buying a new crank and just installing it and put the motor back together, and taa daa!! but nothing is ever as easy as it seems so i figured id ask first. whats the chance that i take the engine apart and never see it run again and spend the money buying new parts for nothing?? is there a guide??

I would take the head off before anything else, look in the cyl as see if its beat up or not.

My words of advice are, if you arent sure how something goes, take a picture of it. I have done this on especially carbs and linkages and its pretty useful to get things right. It may seem like it will take longer having to take pics of it, well think of how long it will take to fix when it will never run again.

Also look up torque specs. Youll need them when you are ready to put things back.

Good luck. Take it slow, so you dont break anything, and once you get to look at the cylinder you may be able to tell right away... (not fixable) but lets hope its something minor.

Can you not find a parts list or something? With numbers? I know the honda engines have an online pdf of every parts number you could want.

i posted an ad for wanted parts engines so that i could get the crank shaft off of that ( plus anything else that i break along the way) and someone responded to me with a briggs and stratton i/c 6.5hp. i checked online that it has an OHV so i didnt know if this crank would work for my engine. heres the link on the briggs and stratton page to the engine he has. http://bsintek.basco.com/BriggsDocumentDisplay/default.aspx?filename=iorpAFJU0HwjhJvcv4

the model number is 124332-0164-E1

Thanks

Dude, and OHV 6.5hp has absolutely nothing in common with a Briggs 5hp Flatty.
They made the **** things for 40 years, you ought to be able to find replacement parts.

Wow its been a while but i finally have some sort of update. I might be getting a new crankshaft for this engine :D either sometime this week or next week. Does anyone have a video of how to change the crankshaft on an engine like this? It would really help me out.

Thanks

im getting a full engine that needs a new cylinder head, flywheel, side cover and recoil, and carb. im thinking that putting the parts from my engine that runs onto that engine is a better idea. and itll involve less dissassembling. i think ill take that option instead.

any suggestions?
