I thought I would share some pictures of the teardown process. These might be hard to look at for those who love Briggs motors. I'm going to remove and inspect the rotating assembly so I can send it off to a buddy who has a spare block and parts. He can build me a good performing motor for $50. I dont think I can save this block since the valves, springs, lifters and guides are siezed in place

Do 5hp flatheads have an intake guide? I can see it clearly has an exhaust guide but it needs replaced. Looks like the intake side has no guide to me. Opinions??

Im getting ready to re assemble the Briggs but I have one question. What is the torque spec for the factory flywheel? I've read that it is 75ft lbs on multiple sites but theres no way it needs to be that tight. Im afraid I would crack the flywheel or something bad

Another Ks person! Hey I got the same engine if you need parts off it. It ran before I took it off and used a predator 212.

What is this O-ring for? It came in my 5hp briggs complete gasket set. I also dont know what the thin white gasket is for since there are two others that are thicker

Im going to guess off hand, the different side plate gaskets are for adjust the end play of the shaft. Might need one, more or a thick depending on the play...
O-ring, Im thinking it for a carb to gas tank seal... but mostly they are flat...But honestly im not sure....

Wow, I'm late! That is NASTY!

And BTW - The official torque rating for the flywheel is 65 ft/lbs!

Use one of the gray gaskets and check your end play, the white one is just for spacing it out to adjust for tight end play.
