IMI Motorsports is my local racing track in Dacono Colorado. Awesome track btw 10 turns(if i remember) and 1 mile long.

The owners and their son Mike used to live near me in San Diego. We had some friends in common. I found them on ebay accidently. Mike always helps me on the phone. Great people over there.

Started to try and finish putting this back together... anyone notice anything wrong with this picture?

Some hacks I swear.

It looks like they are welded at radically different angles. and bent. Cut em off get a string and weld them back with correct Ackerman. Your buyer will appreciate it.

Just one was welded wrong. Cut it, grinded clean, then rewelded at the right angle.

Looked like they out a whole spool of wire into the weld...

Now I have another problem I'm noticing. Everything on the axle is welded to it as I've said before, and actually everything is straight... except for the sprocket. I get about 1/8" movement vertically when spun fast.

Sigh I can hope that it'll be fine, but I know in my gut it won't.

I really don't want to have to replace this axle/hubs/sprocket and everything.

I know I do, but if the chain pops off the second you hit the gas, there goes my sale lol.

Don't worry, my buildoff entrant will be completed on time. Maybe not to my liking, but it will be complete.

No, it's a ken bar streaker. It's just that the PO did a big no no and welded everything onto the axle, as well as chopping a lot of the frame and such.

Noticed the axle nut was vibrating on the axle while spinning it, grab ahold of it with my hand to see how loose it was...and it slides right off. Threads were gone in the nut and on about 3/4" of the axle threads. Thankfully there are about 3/4" of untouched threads on the axle because the PO had a spacer and 2 lock washers after the nut. So off to tractor supply I went, for $10 I picked up a new axle nut 7/8" grade 8, 3 1" axle nuts grade 8, and new nuts and bolts for everything else on the kart.

It WILL be completely assembled tomorrow, and I'll take it for a test drive. Hopefully the slack in the chain will take up the sprockets movement and it won't throw the chain. I'll post up pics when it's all back together.

I also gave the front tires about 2-3° of toe in hoping it would make it a touch easier to steer.

Lol well my prediction of finishing failed. I had everything bolted up, engine loosely mounted and everything, only thing not done was attaching the seat cushion and lining the clutch to the sprocket.

Went to line the clutch/sprocket up first...won't line up. Great.

Can't move the sprocket cause its welded, and really they are so close...about 1/4 off. So modifing the engine plate it is. Getting dark though soooooo...done for the day lol. It's almost there though.

Think my toe in may be a bit too much but I shall see.

Not possible to move it even 1mm...
as I said everything is welded to the axle, hubs, spacers, sprocket/brake hub, locking collars at the bearings. The only way to move the axle is to unbolt the bearings from the hangers, and then the only movement you get is pulling the axle out through the bearing hanger bottom slots. No repositioning anything on the axle sadly, no sliding it over, nothing.

Basically where the bolt head is on the clutch lines up to the teeth on the axle sprocket. The only way I can think to get the teeth of both clutch and sprocket to line up is to move the engine toward the sprocket more. And the only way I can do that is to cut the plate mounting holes and widen then a bit.

I could slap about 4-5 more washers on the shaft for the clutch and get a longer bolt, but then the clutch would only be about 1/2 to 2/3 on the shaft, and I wasn't sure I'd that would be ok, or I'd it would hurt the clutch at all.

Would it be ok to have the clutch only about half way on the shaft, or would that be a big no no?

I would not. But your selling this right?? do it. :devil2:

Good thing I AM going to church in the morning! hehe.

But in all seriuosness. You bought it that way, And you put time and money into it, You should be able to still make a profit. Be honest with the buyer tell them about this. It is just too much more additional work for a flip, If they want to keep the kart it may be worth it for them to fix the 1 thing you did not.

I wouldn't have a clear conscious if I didn't test drive it...plus ya I built it I get to drive it at least once lol.

I planned on being 100% honest with the buyer about everything that was done, and what problems they may encounter in the future because the axle (though I doubt that'll be for a pretty long time )

If I don't test drive it though I won't be 100% sure everything is ok and good to go.

I don't mind grinding the plate a bit for a fit as I have some big grace 8 washers, and if need be some 1/4x1/8 flat stock to fill in the excess with.

If it'll work and not hurt anything by just spacing the clutch more though, then I'd rather do that. I mean the clutch does have a good 3" of contact space on the shaft. Taking 1" or so away from that at most shouldn't hurt it, should it?

Wait you said 1/4" and it is really so close. So that's what I was thinking. But....

I'm a bit confused myself....if it needs to move 1"....ummmmmm....no way the chain stays on turning over by hand.....

Are we missing something here?
