Flywheel need not be changed to get another 1k rpm.
Gov bypass will be enough to get you there.

By the way when the say 6.5hp at 3600 rpm i can assume the governor keeps it form going over 3600rpm?

Correct.

Have you tried engine on kart yet?
If not, I suggest you do so before making any mods as you may be happy with the way it performs "as is".

Doesn't his clutch engage at about 5k?

5200 RPM and it slam's. There's no soft engagement here. And my engine will refuse to idle any lower than about 2000 RPM. With this new motor we idle at about 4500 RPM depending on my reaction time's. You always want your idle to be about 500-800 RPM away from engagement.

I have 6.5 hp clone and if i have this right all i would need to do is change the fly wheel and remove the governor to get what an extra 1000 rpm. By the way when the say 6.5hp at 3600 rpm i can assume the governor keeps it form going over 3600rpm? And out of curiosity where abouts would this idle and when would i want my clutch to engage.

It will hit 5500 RPM, you want a flywheel unless your willing to run the risk of it blowing up and hurting/killing you or a bystander. The wheel itself isnt THAT unstable its the design. If the coil comes loose it will drop into the wheel and it will be like splitting an atom. The $100 billet race wheels dont have a gap for the coil to get jammed in.

I think I'm starting to understand I haven't tried the engine and stuff out yet so no mods for a while I'm just curious.

Yeah but Oscar what he's saying is there is 2 cuts in the flywheel where the magnet is where the coil can drop into and get jamed. The coil is no where near the fins on a billet flywheel.

Lol... People have ran their Clones at 5500-6000RPM, and have the coil completely drop from its brackets. If that happens, don't matter if it's billet or not. There were pictures on 4cycle. Didn't look nice, even took part of the coil mounts with it.

All properly torqued, ect.

On the other hand, people have spun stock Clone coils 7000+ with no problems whatsoever.

Quality, as Russ says, is just "questionable".

I dont understand why the coil just falls. It's not like there's a load on it. Take this for proof. One time on my old blockzilla engine the coil bolts fully backed there way out and the coil was dragging on the flywheel the ENTIRE run and nothing happened except for a few scuffs on the flywheel.

True but I think that the coil dropping issue is quite rare on a briggs 5 coil or even a clone for that matter. I think you'd have to worry about rods and flywheels before coil's

So why not use some JB weld then if you're worried about it falling?

So, guys, question, I have access to get a 3HP for hopefully really cheap. Would you suggest I get it and use it for parts? I'm looking into modifying a 5HP sometime and I want to collect some parts first.

If it runs I would keep it as a 3hp. You never know, you may use it later for a small kart or minibike.
Seems a waste to take apart a working engine.

I'd say get it. They're getting rare. And if you decide not to do anything with it, go ahead and use whatever parts you need.
