The DS80 carb has a fitting for the oil injection. You would have to drill a hole and fitting into the carb to use that carb.

I have a pic of the correct carb if you need to see pic. I have a 81 ds80 in the same shape as yours.

Bummer for it looks like yout kick starter is stripped. I really hate finding bikes like that.

PS I will give you 150$ plus shipping for that tank pipe and fenders. Ebay the rest and buy a running dt80. Had to ask for I have been scouring looking for the items.

When you ask if a carb will work, it depends on your criteria. If you want it to have top performance, you'll have to make it exactly right. If you just want it to work, then a lot of different carbs will work. My brother had a 1972 Volvo station wagon years ago with twin SU carburetors. We didn't feel like fixing them so we took them off and bolted a plate over one of the manifold openings. Then we welded adapter flanges to either end of a piece of exhaust pipe to attach a Subaru carburetor to the other opening. It worked great. The car drove just as well as it ever did with the regular installation, and that's just about as different as it gets.

I have a 5 hp Briggs engine that I'm planning to put on a mini bike with a Comet torque converter. The only problem is that it has the stupid EPA regulated carburetor that doesn't work as soon as it gets a few specks of dust in the jets. I've gotten tired of fooling with these carburetors, so I'd like to fabricate an adapter and install a 5 hp Honda carb that I can get from ebay for $28. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Just don't put on something from a severely different sized engine.

I had a DS-80 when I was 13 or so. It was mad fun, a big step up from the Honda 50cc. There's a baffle in the muffler which comes out after you undo 1 screw at the rear of the tail pipe. Take it out, it sounds absolutely awesome.

You can try and pull that flywheel by smacking the crank with a piece of wood and a hammer, thats how i pulled the flywheel from my cr80. Any carb that fits should at least let the motor run, probably run like ****, but then you know its salvageable and you can buy the right carb for it.

Sorry friend I already picked up the parts on a local parts bikes.

But back to your bike. I see the two hoses coming out of your case. You have CCI. You can remove the cci if you remove the pump and drill a hole some place. To find out where do a google and it will come up with a little looking.

The little hose coming out of the case goes to the carb. On the pump there is a bleed valve to bleed the system so it works right. Always good to bleed them. Just take the pump cover off and look for a screw with a red washer behind it. losing that until solid oil flows. ( I like to use different color oil on new bike. I can see what it is doing this way)

I did finally get the flywheel off with a pry bar, the points were rusted over, i cleaned them up and get a decent spark.

Im going to weld a kick start on, vise grips arent working that well, so i can actually give it some good cranks.

I dont have a carb laying around thats small enough to test, should it fire on wd-40 or starting fluid?

Do not use starting fluid. I wouldn't start it without a carb(going to rev to the moon), but you can. Put a gas/oil mix in a spray bottle.

It does oil the crank bearing on the PTO. You can remove the pump BUT YOU MUST DRILL OUT A HOLE IN THE CASE TO OIL THAT BEARING. I seen a few articals on how to do it. Do a google and it should come up.

I would just get the right carb abd use the oil injection. These pumps seem to work and last forever. Now if you do not have all the cables then you might want to look into drilling the case.

try to find a carb and cables if you do not have them. There are like 3 cables and a little black connector box.

My seat has a hole for a bolt in the back but see nothing to where it bolts to?

CCI stands for crank case injection. You will notice at least one oil line going to the crank case (most likely at the base of the cylinder, right under the carb/intake). There is no easy way to bypass CCI, it directly injects some oil into the left side crank bearing, and without it, your engine wont last long. To bypass it you would have to split the cases, and remove some oil shields, and probably drill a small hole.

I ran a suzuki, with CCI, on premix (the whole thing was funked anyways, 85psi compression, welded shifter, etc), the crank bearings sounded rough to start with, but by the time i tore the engine down the left side crank bearings had nearly 1/16" of play in them. When it was running, near the end, you could actually hear the bearings grinding.

Just use the CCI, your bottom end will last forever, its worth the cost.

man that bike looks just about DONE, hows the compression? what kind of carberator are you thinking of using, I think any ol carb will work as long as its not to big or small and its jetted right. also, try sanding down the points, works in most briggs. if not, throw in a new set of points and get the magneto and sparkplug cap tested, which is unlikey to fail. good luck.

That bike can be real nice with a little work. Check out my thread a little down the list. $50 ds80 makeover.

I had ditched the project a while back, but yall got me goin on it again

I tore out all the wires down to the basic: One wire, stator to coil (exiter wire). Ive deep cleaned the magneto, points, coil, and wire connections.

At this point i have a strong spark and darn good compresion (havnt actually measured yet)

Im pretty stoked now that its this far along. Im just looking at gettin a carb and throttle cable, homemade seat, maybe a sweet powder coat paint job

Ill post pics as i go, and ill get a pic of what your lookin at Bighead.

I finally got around to welding the kickstart on and...STARTED ER RIGHT UP!!!! This thing has been sitting for years, and it started 1st kick. I rode it just in the yard in 1st gear and she sounds so good, i didnt even have to tweak the carb!

Ill post pics next week of the finished product.
