The first was really able, being a cone clutch.... the second gen as we now see it the 3d one... it has plates so it is able to slip and feather it as needed...

The ON / OFF nature of the clutch would not work for his intended use. I've heard from more people who didn't like it than from people who liked the clutch.
You are confusing an automotive torque converter for a manual transmission dry clutch. A wet clutch in a vehicle would cause too much slippage and would be next to worthless. An automotive torque converter uses automatic transmission fluid as a hydraulic fluid to lock and unlock. A dry clutch allows for some slippage to get you going.What we really need is a manual wet clutch, just like a car. That would please everyone.
Am I missing something? thats why they got away from the cone style, and went with plates that can be feathered?

Yeah not for everyone, I think its best suited for a fun toy, clutch kicks and skids are fun.
For serious drag racing a regular centrifugal clutch would be much more predictable/repeatable.
If you drive like a grandma or normal person, probally not very fun.
When you have multiple vehicles with CVTs, a different experience is refreshing.
I had one. They sucked on that also ! They were too violent. They did not work well at all on drag racing either. I know of one person that figured it out a little bit.wasn't that all they are good for? as in no slip like a normal clutch basically for drag racing?
It was my mini me Dragbike build towards the end for the build off. I think 2016 ????I'm trying to find the posts where Joe talks about the clutch, but this search function is only showing me 3 posts where Joe used the word clutch. Hhhmmm???
It is my understanding that the 3D manual clutch could not be feathered. It is either disengaged or locked up. I don't remember if he tried it, or if the people at 3D motorsports explained how it would work to him. I did find that he machined a 420 crank down to 3/4" to use this clutch on. The clutch was set up for 80hp (according to his post). The engine and clutch got sold. I think it was a Nitro44 or Nitro50 build if you care to search the hard way.
