I am currently tearing down my new build and starting to order parts. The 60t #35 chain on the kart needs replaced. Do I change to a #40? This kart will be a yard kart.

#35 chain is plenty tough for most applications under ~12 HP.
I've got #35 chain for a tiller on my kart and it is real tough, I'd recommend tiller chain. It's designed to be used and abused.

Agree with JT on the merits of #35 chain.

However, you threw the word 60T in there, which denotes your sprocket (its tooth count). Is the sprocket also toast? You might want to consider replacing both chain and sprocket simultaneously.

Then it's up to you which size chain to use. #420 is generally the strongest(#40 is the same strength, but I think it's wider, making sprocket sourcing a little tricky.
