Broken rings can sometimes occur if ring gap aligns with exhaust port. End of ring can snag and snap. This is why some 2 cycle manufactures will pin rings to prevent them from turning in cylinder bore. Would be a good idea to put a small champher on ring end gap for rings that are not pinned.

Well I like to put every engine to use, so usually I try to make them as good as possible. But hey, to each his own.

I dont see whats wrong with sanding it as long as you dont mess up the edge of the piston. Im with ed. But I wouldnt use a wire brush in bench grinder though.

I can just imagine the look on my face when a mechanic tells me he sanded my pistons.
Sorry guys, but this is just plain dumb.
Where does it say that it's ok to sand any piston?
Let the flaming begin!!!

I know I would hate it if somone said that to me but he's already done it. I wouldnt do it to my engines I just use alcohol or somthing else to clean my pistons.

You sound quite young :) Good! Always good startin off early.

Anyhow, a dremel and wire brush could've done quite some good.
