i got this frame for 30 dollars. it appears to be one of those Family Fun Center go kart frames. it is very heavy (probably over 100+ lbs) and all the wheels are useless. I dont know if i should keep it and try to cut and lighten the frame, or sell it and build my own frame. The problem with building my own frame is that all the components for steering and wheels are going to be expensive and i want to use as little money as i can. My budget for building a go kart is $150 and 90 of that is already spent on an engine.

here are some pics:

i think its cool, what size engine are you using? and it looks like you can loose a bit of weight from it by getting rid of the huge front end

Hey, I don't think there is ever a perfect kart.
Always something that can be changed and improved upon. Seams to me that if your on a budget (and who isn't) building this up, learning and having a bit of fun, using as much of it as you can (evens the wheels if they work) is a good place to start.
And later on, easier to sell a complete rolling chassis (if you decide to keep the motor) than lots of bits and pieces.

yeah, i think im gonna chop it up. Do you guys have any blade suggestions for a 7 1/4 circular saw. I tried using an angle grinder with a cutting blade but it killed the blade in a few cuts.

all of the wheels have some sort of damage on them. i might be lucky if i could re-use 2 of them. If im keeping this frame, i would have 30 for wheels which are impossible to find at that price.

just use junkyard lawn mower tires, they work great, and there are tons of styles and sizes to choose from as almost every mower company used different tires.

Well dont use a circular saw you care about, but i just use a masonry blade with a old black and decker saw, works well but the blades wear out fast also, buy a few at a time. Also WEAR EAR PLUGS its horribly loud.

cut off wheels or circular blades last alot longer if you do multiple passes on what you are cutting. Keep the blade shallow and don't use pressure. Just use the weight of the tool, it takes longer but saves you $$$ of blades!

Why would you use a masonry blade for metal?

Its done at my school alot. Whenever the teacher said "Who wants to do some grinding" Most kids that dont know that its just pure work put up there hands, Teacher got some poor kid to cut up 10x10 1/8" Stainless Steel with a 5" angle grinder with a maconary blade. Poor kid.
