yep that is the best way, but I used to use a high nickel cast rod. In my younger days I used to be in the cylinder head re-manufacturing business.
One of the shops that I worked for specialized in "Cracked" head repair.
I learned how to "Hot" weld cast from one of the best.
Its a very hot procedure. A new vice is much cheaper.

oh yea hello my name is Tony
first day here lol

Got a new vice, it looks so pretty and clean.:Angel_anim:
Anyway i have started to weld the front end of the old bike onto my frame, i am hoping to get it rolling tomorrow.
i still have to build/buy
-steering(wheel,shaft)
-breaks(old drum was :censored:, i have got a disk/caliper but i don't know if i can mount it)
-seat(what do you recommend, just remember that i am on a tight budget)
-shifter/reverse/ratio levers
-pedals
-belly pan
-clean wiring up and make a dash with speedo, key start etc

The other bike that i got for parts is a 350cc Yamaha big bear the guy only wanted $80NZD for it in the end, he had broken one of the front A-arm mounts and had ****ed the output that goes to the front diff.

Any questions/comments would be appreciated.

Man those big bears of that era are so famous for the front end diff & shafts to go to hell.

I used to own one, had the same issues, and now my buddy has one with the same issues. sad.

I got the front end welded on, it looks great the suspension is nice and soft.
here's some pics

what colour do you think i should use, i like the look of the green that is on the front end, and i think it would go well with the black rims/hubs.

i have turned the back tyres around so it is pretty wide(1.3m=52 inches)

I have just gotten back from the motorbike wreckers with a entire drum brake ($80NZD)
i am now in the process of installing it,it is in a lot better condition than the one that was on the bike originally. i would have used the one that was on the bike but i ****ed it while i was try to get it off

i have been thinking about my kart and its pedals, well you see there isn't much room for pedals on my kart and i have been thinking of complicated ways to use pedals but then i had a :idea2: why not use hand controls, i feel so stupid for not thinking about it before, it is going to be a lot easier because it was a motorbike so all i have to do is attach the throttle and brake to my steering wheel.

i have also figured out a really simple way to clean up my wiring, put it all in a plastic box and bolt it to my frame

all i have to do now is build a shifter lever and a floor pan, i am so pleased that i thought of these simple ideas, i guess that in the end some of the simplest ideas are the best

oh yea and today while my kart was on jack stands i put it in 5Th and the speedo went to 60KMPH, the kart should be a blast once it has finished.

any questions, comments, ideas and suggestions would be appreciated

took my kart for a decent test ride today, i got it up to 50kmph it was great until i went sideways into a power pole, broke my steering support (with my leg ****, ****, ****, now i have a limp and a big cut) snapped my throttle cable, bent my front end ("A" arm mounts etc.) but the crash did fix my steering, my ackerman was backwards (outside tyre was turning more than inside) but now it is fixed :D

now i have to take everything of my frame :mad2:, bend it back, weld some supports, weld the steering support back on, get a new throttle cable (have to anyway old one was to short)

i have to take everything off my frame at some stage anyway, i have to paint it and go over some of my crap welds.

and now mum wont let me ride again until i get a motorbike helmet :furious2:

i have fixed my steering support and tonight i am going to start taking everything off my frame.
and i just found out my exhaust broke, i am going to fix it with a tin can and some hose clips. it sounds retarded with it broken, kinda sounds like big bubbles popping :ack2:

while i have everything off my frame i am going to make my shifter handle.

oh yea and i think i might hook up my brake cable so that i can stop in front of stuff not wedged up next to it (stupid power pole, who needs power anyway)

i have been unable to straighten my frame, to be honest i hardly tried. i didn't bother to because it wasn't bent much (couldn't tell from a photo) and it fixed my ackerman.

i have finally made my shifter handle, put some big supports on my frame (7 feet of steel) and gave my frame (and cow :poop: )its final coat of Matt black paint
and on a side note my new favorite spay-on product is tyre-shine, it made my big ol ugly tyres look pretty and clean

Help

so i went to take my kart for a ride today and it was running funny, when in neutral it revs fine but when in gear it just stops running, its sounds like there is not enough fuel or air coming in so I'm gona clean the carb.
would having the exhaust off cause this.

i have also taken the pulse pump off the carb, i don't need it anymore, the fuel tank is above the engine so it is gravity feed.

i think it could also be something stuck in my fuel line.

what do you guys think my problem is?

BTW its a 4 stroke

Did your engine have a side-stand switch?
No

i don't think i explained properly it revs fine in neutral, idles fine in gear but when i press the throttle it chokes and coughs then dies. it doesn't sound like it is being killed by a kill switch.

i have properly fixed my exhaust and it runs better now but if i try to drive in first gear it gets about 10m then chokes, coughs for about 10 seconds then dies.
