20mm slide carb

So I have found a deal on a 20mm slide carb. I dont remember the brand. Probably chineese manufactured. My question would be if that would work for my predator 212 stage 1. It doesnt have to be an upgrade, just stock replacement at least. I can drill jets. From what I can find, my early model predator non hemi came with a 15mm carb from the factory, but I cant confirm this. Thoughts?

Measure the intake port with a caliper or something reasonably precise. The closer in diameter the better.

I got a China carb and had to drill the main to .033” to work on a tecumseh. Start with idle, then needle position, then main jet. FYI you will need to find or make some sort of intake adaptor.

Ps I got my carb for $13 on eBay.

This one is around $10 plus shipping. Thanks for the input guys. I will have to do some measurements to see if it could work. I can make an adapter. Probably make a long runner since it's an offroad cart. Try and squeeze just a tad more torque out.

I did find a PZ22 for about $18. Would that be a better option? Obviously size would be better but it's just a stage 1 with a stock head, I'm not sure the extra flow is really with it into a restricted intake port

Genuine Walbro PZ22? I'd go for it. Walbro carburetors are solid from my experience(they've gotta be, they're OEM on Briggs LO206s and Animals).

I appreciate the concern, but I intend to build an intake adapter anyway and I want to use the stage one adapter and cold air filter like the GPS stage one kit. Using the aluminum air filter adapter that's on it. It will need to be machined. Basically building a 63mm filter adapter for whatever carb I get.

I'm more worried about a throttle cable honestly

The $10 one that you posted is the exact one i used on my briggs flathead. I did not drill anything out on it, it just ran fine. This was before i had an air fuel ratio meter, so i dont know if that will be the right way to do it.

I actually prefer the $10 carb as it is a copy of the briggs ohv carb, the $18 seems more like a turd. They are all turds i guess haha but they work way better than the stock carb!!!

Seeing as it will most likely stay just a stage one, I think the $10 carb will work just fine. 20mm it still much better than stock

My 20mm slide carb came in today and looks good! I will let you guys know how it goes after I get it installed!

Just out of curiosity has anyone actually measured the stock carb size? I've read anywhere from 13-15mm on the non-hemi and up to about 19mm on the hemi. That seems a bit much, but who knows?

All I can tell you is that I wouldn't be surprised if Predator carbs come undersized from the factory. My HiPo Briggs has a ~21mm port, a ~20mm intake manifold, and an ~ 19mm carburetor.
I think someone wrote on here that it's similar with the tank mounted carbs, and it probably is, I need to measure.

FYI BMIKarts sells bored stock carburetors too, last I checked. I think they're more expensive than the Chinese slide carbs, but they ARE legal for certain race kart classes(Predator Modified, Builder Prepared IIRC, don't quote me on Predator Modified).

Slide carbs are the way to go. People are always complaining about how they don't like the carbs that come on whatever engine they have. These carbs are not designed for power sports. They are designed to run mostly at a consistent RPM. Look at the plastic spacer between a predator carb and the head. The carb side has a 19mm opening. The port on the head is 24mm. That is a heck of a lot more air/fuel you can get in there if you go to a slide carb. The difference in throttle response between a stock carb and a slide carb is night and day. You will spend about the same if you get a jet kit, air filter adapter, and pod air filter, or if you get the Chikuni kit from Amazon. With a slide carb you also have to delete the governor, and get a different throttle cable. But you won't have to worry about how to rig up throttle linkages again. You can take all that off and declutter your engine.

So I have that the stock head flows ~ 54 CFM, based on a few posts. So does anybody have flow numbers on a 20mm carb or 22mm carb? Maybe even an educated guess? I cant seem to come up with flow numbers in my googling for anything less than a 34mm.

Slide carbs:
22 flows 88 CFM,
24 flows 97
26 flows 110

So prbably less than 88, but more than 42 hehe
