Slidewayz: that is a good picture and a great idea, for any mount. I have seen mounts like that before but never DIYed like that thanks for the good tip.

DD wait what? You make your own combustion engines in your home shop DIY!! That is awesome. That may be another subject... But feel free to elaborate just a little here.

Ok, I have a few of this type that I have made and they are rotary valved, water cooled, with pressurized oiling systems, this one has a 1.125 bore and a 1.125 stroke, I have made this all out of billet material and I have one that I care not to show right now that is also one of my own designs that supercharges itself, there is one member only that knows how this works because I explained to him how it works and I trust him,the plus about this rotary valve is the lack of very much parasitic drag unlike a camshaft poppet valve engine, this is not new technology but I am using this design for a reason to develop a design I have and this configuration is a prototype design of mine. The spark plug is 10 mm thread.The slots in the roof of the combustion chamber are the intake and exhaust ports and the rotary valve rotates half the speed of the crankshaft and the intake and exhaust cycles occur, so if I want more intake or exhaust duration I slot the rotary valve longer and I can also change the centers of the ports in the rotary valve to simulate changing the lobe centers on a camshaft.

The piston is made from a crown section of a piston from a large Catterpillar engine that I overhauled which is made from high silicon low expansion aluminium, it is not easy cutting a slug from the crown of a piston in order to get the correct material to make a a piston.:lolgoku:

I make my crankshafts out of chrome moly steel so what I do is layout the end of the material, mark and drill dead center holes a distance of half of the desired stroke and in this case for this engine the dead center drill holes were .5625 apart, I install a live center on the tailstock of my lathe and I install a dead center in the headstock which rotates with the headstock spindle in turn making it a live center, I have different drive dogs that I have made and they are used either with a faceplate or headstock chucks. Then I install the material with the dead center holes for the rod journal into the live centers and I set up the drive dog and I proceed to turn the rod journal first and take it down to about .002 of the desired size so I can polish it to the correct size, when I machine the crankshaft I cut radiuses at the ends of the journals. After the rod journal is completed I relocate the partially machined crankshaft main bearing dead center holes to the live centers an proceed to turn them down and radius the flanks and polish the mains to size, next the crankshaft will head to my mill to where I will mill the counter weights into the crankshaft and that would take a lot of time to explain how much material is removed and why.

I am a Heavy Equipment Shop supervisor, I have 13 Technicians that work for me and two Welders/Fabricators that I also supervise,We work on everything from D9T Catterpiller dozers to small weedeaters etc,I have been at my current job for 37 years, I have been a Mechanic for 40 plus years and I have done different types of racing and I have had my hand in quite a bit of engine building and modifications over the years, I also port cylinder heads and cylinders for all different kind of off road racing motorcycles etc, I have many hobbies and I am enjoying building these karts and I have learned quite a lot just by designing and building them, I use them as a test bed for engine modifications that I like to do, anyway we all have a story back to the topic. Here is the steering wheel mounted and ready for action and the wheel halves all painted and machined.

I have been really busy lately and I have some free time now to get back to work on the kart,here are a few shots of the kart with the blacked out and machined tri stars and tires mounted on them,I still need to trim the front axles off.

It's just so perfectly done, so much thought, time and $. Makes a person wonder how anyone else has a chance between your build and slidewayz.

Hoping the craziness of my build can keep up with ya'll lol... if I can ever get the ragafraggin time.
