16hp... Nice!!!

As long as you guys have the tools and abilities to install it (which could end up being quite involved), then it'll make for a peppy little beastie! Lifan is apparently rather high quality for a Chinese manufacturer. Many of their models are modelled after popular japanese motorcycle engines. There is a 250 V-Twin that is supposedly part-for-part with my Yamaha XV250.

What does your fabrication experience look like? At the very least, you'll have to fabricate mounting brackets, a clutch and linkage, shifter and linkage. Depending on the layout of the rear of the kart, you may have to pretty much chop it apart and redo it complete. Got a pic or two of the kart?

Umm, no. The 8hp Tec may have similar torque but, once you hit max RPM, that's it. The lifan revs a lot higher &, when it maxes out, it has multiple gears, which also means you can gear it higher, still have plenty of torque & a higher top speed

funny that was one of the engines i was looking at on ebay last night.... the only draw back i see is there is no reverse. but if the kart is light enough it shouldnt be a problem to pick it up and turn it around. plus u have manual shifting...... that makes even more fun IMO.

I've been looking at this engine too, what would be the theoretical speed if a 6:1 ratio in fiftht gear?

Most (if not all) ATV engines have reverse...
