I put a longer spring right on the cable on my kart, between where the cable clamp (where the outer casing is held in place) is and the screw for locking the accelerator cable in (the inner part). If you don't have a long enough spring, you can use a small flat washer between the two springs. Even springs out of a click type ball point pen will work. It fixes that issue on my kart anyway, and it's almost completely hidden when you put the air cleaner box back on.
