Yeh im gonna cut down the key, the clutch didnt include a key so i used the one that was on the engine. When i stick the key in the clutch keyway its double the size it should be so ill mark it where it sticks out and grind it off.

:censored: i cant believe u spent $120 on wheels like that! mine look the same and were £5.99 each

I no i could of got all 4 for like 10-20bucks in total 2nd hand but my dad said he would buy me new ones so idk lol he payed. Going to weld up some more of the frame today. Heres what i hope to get done this week.

Get seat and weld up brackets for that, weld on foot rest, make spindles and weld them on, get supplies for turning ( rods, shaft, bearings, steering wheel), make back axle and brake disc, fit on sprocket, make engine mounting holes, hook up chain. hook up throttle cable, make some pedals, hook up brakes. Ride it, take it apart, prime it then paint it.

I hope to get up to the turning bit today then the rest later this week.

I definately want to see this thing run with the 2.5hp on. I want to see how powerful it is. I suggest a 6:1 gearing ratio. Like 12 on clutch and 72 on back or 10 on clutch and 60 on back. 11 on clutch and 72 on back would be good too. I have been a fan of underpowered go karts and really would get a thrill seeing this one run!

I"m rather interested in how this will turn out. I was originally going to build a kart with a frame as skinny as possible and the tires sticking out enough to provide stability, but after more thought i realized i don't have anywhere to drive an on road kart. I'm curious how long do you an axle do you plan to have?

This looks like a great project, but I think you may be disappointed with the performance.
I had a 3.5 kart with an 8.8:1 ratio which would top out at 40kph at 5500 rpm. I geared it so low because I wanted mad acceleration to do powerslides, but it just didn't happen. The acceleration was pretty poor.

Yeh i no its gonna go slow but the engine is only temporary, the axle is 85cm long, im getting a gx200 honda clone engine from a family member for real cheap. He works up north n can get em cheap as. Its the same guy that was going to give me the 5.5hp honda but it turns out its tapered shaft. Hes gonna get me a 6.5hp GX200 clone. WOOT WOOT. So in like 2 months ill be going 80km/h. XD Ohh and i got a 5.5:1 gear ratio, 11 to 60.

After a week of not doing anything my dad finally got back from his boat trip so i can start building more of my kart. Here is wat i did yesterday.
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=7dTv_cQdw94

Today im going to hook up all the steering so ill have the whole front end done by today. Then ill get the shaft made up sometime this week, im ordering my brake caliper and disc today of ebay. Its coming from america so it will take about 2 weeks. I should be able to have a lil ride on my kart by friday, then on saturday im going on holidayz till next saturday. When i get back its back to school but by that time the brakes should be in, ill install them then the kart it done. Then during this week once ive done everything ill take off everything then prime and paint the frame bright green. I may paint the engine black and im going to paint the seat but that needs special flexing paint.

So should have a lil vid of my riding this thing by friday, if not then another week after that coz im goin away.

Stay tuned guys.

looks ok but ill tell you what the first bump and those castor "spindles" are gonna fold up like hot butter. theres alot of stress on those when your turning and hitting bumps. you can probrobly get away with using them but they need mucho reinforcement. and you best do it now rather than later after theyve been bent and fitigued.

Yep i will reinforce them, been told by one of my dads mates whos an engineer to reinforce it as well. He showed me, he stood on the frame right next to it and it bowed in so yeh ill fix that up. Heres a vid of what i did today.

Doesnt seem like much but it took a while to do and my dad was out driving places with work today so i couldnt go to the machine shop so i pretty much only worked on the kart for like 4 hours today and did nothing else the rest of the day. :( Tomorrow im hopefully going to get the axle made and fitted, hope my dad can help me lots so i can get it going by middle of friday as my dad has to leave early tomorrow, 12! So it only gives me about 3 hours on it. I better work real hard on it tomorrow so i can have a little ride of it before i leave for holidays tomorrow.

Cya guys!

Almost done, its taken a long time but its days from completion. I have to re weld the whole kart as the welds are shocking (dad welded it all XD) i have to re weld it all. All i have to do after that is weld a bracket for the caliper and mount the disc, bolt on the engine, connect the chain, connect throttle and connect brake. The welding will take about 2 or 3 days and the rest will take like a day or so so it will probably be done by friday or thursday. I dont like setting due dates as i never meet them since there is always things that need doing haha.
