pretty much, any kart can be modified to fit anyone it just depends how much work you want to put in extra. or how much you want to spend straight up.

most go karts will fit both, you can then add minor changes to suit your own requirements.

Something like this one from norther tool Clicky

Would be ok for you and the youngsters.I found one in are local paper and traded for it.We got the bug and the rest of the story can be see in the Crashes go karts thread in the build section of this site.
Tecumseh and briggs are good engines,Also depending on how old the kids are you might not want one to fast for them but I know you will want to go faster and faster.Once the kids get used to it they will too.My son come in one day and said dad can we make this go faster!!!

At first he was a little scared of it then like a switch went on and now zooming around.

Your probably looking for a 5-6.5 horsepower engine

When it comes to engines, true Hondas can't be beat for durability, but if you're looking for an engine thats almost as good, harbor frieght clones are good.
honda clone:http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=96549

true Honda:http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_301_301

Heres some other good engines:
briggs 5.5:http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_47814_47814
robin (subaru):http://smallenginewarehouse.com/product.asp?PN=EX17-TO&desc=Robin+America+Engine+6hp+Horizontal+3+4+shaft+OHV+LOS+Takeoff+removed+from+Manco+Go+Karts

(^that is also a great website to get engines from)

Briggs 5hp is the standard for go karts and these things are great. You can get them on ebay all over the place.

I haven't had very good experiences with tecumseh, they're not nearly as reliable as the other brands I've mentioned.

Hope this helped!

A Manco "Critter II" is a great kart for both adults and kids. I'm 14 and it fits me comfortably, and the 2 seater bench can be adjuated. I have a Briggs 5hp on mine with a header and a 72 (I think) tooth sprocket. Lots of power all around, and lights 'em up pretty well on dirt (plus the occasional 180 and 360). It also has a removable roll bar for safety. Below is a pic of mine...you can get similar models from Tractor Supply or your local place like that.

I'm officially a go kart owner, thanks for your imput

thank you to all who replied, i bought a 2000 Carter bros two seater that was not being used in 4 years, some rust and a carb adjustment needed but he only wanted 100 dollars. im actually enjoying tinkering with it, hope to get a picture for you, I have some more questions.
1. what is a good rust remover for chain and sprocket?
2. is there a particular supply place that you guys order things like belts chains etc., also any good used places to pick up things
3. Is there any place thats legal to ride other than my yard? Poughkeepsie NY

congrats on your buy.

as for your questions.

rust on chain and sprocket = wire brush drill bit attachment and drill. then spray on the WD-40 or the like.

theres a thread on go kart supply websites.
here it is http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1180

and, no, there are no places besides tracks as far as im aware. however there are places where the police dont really care. aslong as you dont kick up a fuss/ruin things etc try industrial districts on the weekends or something.

I wouldnt recommend using WD-40,only because it contains water, which can make it rust.Use something like Liquid Wrench Lubricating oil.

uhm, what? neither of you know what you are talking about

WD-40 stands for, 'water displacer 40th attempt'

"Known as "the can with a thousand uses," WD-40 protects metal from rust and corrosion, penetrates stuck parts, displaces moisture, and lubricates just about anything. WD-40 is also great when it comes to cleaning grease, grime, and other marks from most surfaces
LUBRICATES
WD-40’s lubricating ingredients are widely dispersed and hold to all moving parts. WD-40 does not contain silicone or other additives that attract dust and dirt.

PROTECTS
WD-40 protects metal surfaces with corrosion resistant ingredients to shield against moisture and other corrosive elements.
PENETRATES
WD-40 loosens rust stuck to metal bonds and frees stuck, frozen or rusted parts. The lubricating properties of WD-40 then keep these parts working freely.

It is The thing to use on chains of all kinds.

Are you sure? Well, it might have been the kind that came in the old cans, but I used to put it on skateboard berings and it attracted dirt like crazy

heck, for crud removal, i use carb cleaner, then lightly wash it off with a damp rag, then put some LP rust inhibitor and lubricant. it does a greta job keeping dirt off my chain.

Also, if you're staying with that old chain, you're going to want to soak it in oil overnight. Otherwise, just buy a new chain.

They sell chain cleaner at some bike shops and it works rather well. Some even come with a special brush attachment on the end that all you have to do is run the chain past.

I just said that from personal experience, not saying WD-40 is bad, but i prefer other products over it.

well WD-40 is NOTHING of a chain lubricant. Why dont you just use somthing called chain lubricant or white lithium grease in a can.
