Im in the process of doing the same - Honda atv 110 4 speed semi automatic no reverse... to my surprise the smaller the sprocket on the rear axle the faster the kart went. Right now with a 6 inch tire the size of sprocket on axle is the same size as sprocket on motor 14 tooth. I started off with the large sprocket on rear axle like you see on mini bikes and 4th gear would get it to barely move. What i got now 14 motor 14 axle and i never have to take it out of first gear it goes so fast...I'm going to be making a go kart with a 110cc atv engine from a taotao quad with neutral and reverse....how can I make this engine has powerful as it can be?
That's because you are geared way too high! Gear it down with a larger sprocket then you can use the gears how they were intended. I bet it is blistering fast, but takes forever to get there right?Im in the process of doing the same - Honda atv 110 4 speed semi automatic no reverse... to my surprise the smaller the sprocket on the rear axle the faster the kart went. Well it wont do a burnout but gets up and moves fast. by the time I shift to second gear its going scary fast. Now I dont know how to ca;lculate the gearing for the best ratio all I have is what I experienced The Atc 110 motor I put on the go Kart came off the Honda 3 wheeler. So my first thought was to use the 3 wheelers rear sprocket which I did and first gear I would have to rev up the rpms to full throtle to get it to move. second gear same thing full throtle moving at 5 mph. 3rd gear a litle better... The 3 wheelers sprocket is 3 to 4 times bigger than the one i got now. That's because you are geared way too high! I will give it a try... Maybe it will do a burn out that would be greatDrop the tooth count on engine side and increase the axle teeth. I don't see any reason this wouldn't apply for your one rig when everything else is set up like that?
