My day job is product development. I started as a mechanical engineer but spent a lot of time doing digital electronics. This motor control stuff is new for me, but not PCB layout and what not.

That's a good point. It's good for testing as the engine is easier to start, but once things are working I will remove it. That's a great suggestion.

That's a ton of watts. I really don't know the best way to go. I wouldn't know how to build one so I'd buy it, but for that many watts it wouldn't be cheap. Good luck, sorry I can't be of more help.

That is a prety sweet engine. I saw he replaced the crank shaft. the one he took out had a hole for oil in the crank under the connecting rod. That does look like a good way to get oil to the connecting rod

Many years ago I'd drill right through the tubing and then tig in a round tube. Then I could clamp safely in that location without affecting the integrity of the tube. It's a bit of extra work but it's a good technique, just not for every situation.
