What does the exhaust / muffler look like? Air filter? Many times decel popping is caused by too lean of a pilot jet. It doesn’t really bother me too much. I jet the pilot circuit how I think it performs best, sometimes it pops. Especially with open exhaust.

What kind of clearances are needed for comfort? On the 212 engines I’ve played with I think I aim for about 0.030” piston to head clearance and maybe 0.065” exhaust valve to piston. 0.050” intake valve to piston? I don’t remember what basic guidelines are.

Maybe you are only revving to 3600 RPM limit? 6:1 ratio you had before would put you right around 37-38 mph at 3600 RPM with a fully shifted TC. Did you test if it revs past 3600 RPM when the rear tire is off the ground?

You sound like you are on the right track by getting primary clutch springs for higher rpm engagement. Not sure where the engagement rpm is now, but another 1000 or 1500 rpm at clutch engagement will probably help. Like 4500 RPM or so instead of 3200 RPM. Might need some big tires for traction.
