Ideas for DIY makeshift 1 1/4" axle

I know, you should just buy one, and I am... going to a chromoly heavy wall tube axle.... ...but for now, I've got a broken 1.25" solid aluminum axle. Snapped off completely right a the bearing. Never again... chromoly every time going forward. To be fair, the design should have had the...

    First build, Grand Daddy

Oh man... I'm not sure when I'll have the tenacity to actually put plans together... and the go kart is ever changing While I've complained about some of the stuff in the grand daddy plans, my hat is off to anyone who can put forth the effort to create plans like that.

Grand Daddy 420cc Predator Fuel Economy/Range

Just checking back in here... Like the new replies :). @Functional Artist , well, all valid points. Ideally I'll have the suspension "as good as it can be", but im sure it'll be a little grueling, and I like the challenge. We have trails where we can cover 60+ miles without getting close to...

    212 vs 301 vs 420?

P.S. My wife is still 120 lbs, and I still went for the 420. I made up for it at 260 lbs.

    212 vs 301 vs 420?

If you go 301, go 420. Waste not to. If you go 212, well you can stick to a series 30 torque converter, for which there are many simple cheap effective plate kits for the driven pulley. Finding the right 40 series plate kit can get tricky, and expensive, and may not work well anyway. Many do...

    Building gokart using wooden PALETTE

Anything is possible. The romans built massive seriously destructive weapons of war out of wood, as well as chariots that took serious abuse. The wagons that carried everyone to frontier were made of wood. Half the Model A was wood. Stuff can be built with wood if you really want to...

Grand Daddy 420cc Predator Fuel Economy/Range

I'm definitely putting on a bigger tank.... just trying to decide how far I should take it. I think the stock tank on my 420 is 1.7g. I'll probably go to at least a 4 gallon solution.

Grand Daddy 420cc Predator Fuel Economy/Range

I know this might seem like a silly question, but I'm curious if anyone has tested out their fuel range in a similar buggy. And, yes, there are a LOT of factors that contribute to the number, like tires, weight, gearing clutch system, etc.... but, just tell me if you've figured out how much...

    Grampa and his gang

Good looking happy family. I guess I better keep building these things so everyone in the fam can have one. That looks like a hoot. I might be able to finish them all by the time I'm your age. :)

Go-Kart Steering Very "Heavy" (Hard to Turn)

If you need to keep all the current angles and need more leverage you could run a sprocket setup and gear it how you need with that. split the pitman shaft from steering shaft, put a sprocket on each and some bearings and you can basically "gear down" your steering to the pitman arm. This is...

Comet 44 magnum used with 7 1/2" driven

Thanks for the info gents.... I can't seem to find a 8.5" driven built by the chinese, so it appears I'll have to also get the comet brand for that. I might just run with the new driven against the 7.5 and see how it goes. It does make sense to me that the larger driven pulley would be easier...

    Milling head on drill press?

I might have needed a 6er before I started such blasphemy. ...I gots a big drill press and a bottle of whiskey though.... hmmm. You go kart guys are like true old school hot rodders. Doing what ya can with what you got, and maybe a few things you shouldn't. I like it.

Comet 44 magnum used with 7 1/2" driven

I'm considering the switch to the 44, for several reasons, which we don't need to get into, but I'm curious if there is any reason why it couldn't be run with the 7.5" driven 40 series pulley? I've seen a reference or two that suggests the 8.5" pulley is intended for the 44, but does it have...

Spider Cart Grand Daddy A-Arm help

I can tell you how I did it. I purchased 3/4 ID by 2" steel seamless bushings from HD. You can buy them in packs of 5. The price is reasonable: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Hillman-3-4-I-D-x-1-O-D-x-2-in-Seamless-Steel-Spacer-5-Pack-880425/204726191 You'll of course need 2 of these and end up...
