Follow up on the jack shaft - it’s junk. I’m planning on replacing it with a chain and sprocket. The drive wheel has a 60T sprocket. What size sprocket is recommended for the engine side of the jack shaft?

Another "modification" was a welded on nut for the drive wheel bolt to be threaded into.

So far I have been unable to pull the pulley off. The jack shaft was seized up. Got it to move but not freely. Looks like I may have to replace it.

I restored this Carter Kart back in June of 2024 and gave it to my neighbor for her grandkids to use. She just gave it back to me because her grandkids are getting their drivers licenses. I cleaned it up and tuned it up. $100.

This is my eighth go kart restoration. With this one I put ant-seize and axle grease on every bolt I could. I also used lock nuts to prevent vibration from loosening them. I figure I have $600 invested. I sell all of my karts for $100 to make fun affordable for anyone.

Weekend Update: Out with the old, in with the new. I replaced the clutch that was on the kart with a new one. Same type of belt clutch. Problem solved. The kart rips like it's brand new. Thanks for all of the help, especially Rat.

The motor dies as soon as the tires touch the ground.

It's a centrifugal clutch not a torque converter.
