So I wanted to remove the spring from the shocks of my kid's hammerhead 80T to clean them up and paint them.
Made a "spring compressor" tool and low and behold - the "disc" does not have a slot! - what the.....?!?!

There is a nut inside. Anyone seen this? I assumed it is screwed on - standard rotation or reverse? will need a second person to keep it compressed when attempting the nut...

It does look to be reverse... But just loosen the direction the threads go, might have to secure the moving yoke to loosen.

Could be the nut and lower mount are tightened up against one another, or "jammed". Try to clamp the lower mount and loosen the nut (turning it to the right).

That's exactly what it is; the nut is a jam nut and the eye screws onto the shock shaft. I can tell by looking at the threads that they're right-hand.

And that spring compressor is scary.

I just cobbled that together quickly. :) I still need to add a guard over the top of the spring and cut a slot for the shaft. That should make it "less scary"

I cut a slot for the shaft and the spring sat much nicer in the angle iron. I was able to loosen the jamb nut and then used a screwdriver in the shock eye to remove the end. :)
