2020 - GEGcorp "Dirt Bobber Trike"

Yah, LOL. Nothing lasts forever, including LA batteries. My Tahoe stuck in the driveway today with fresh fuel and a dead battery. They give out too ! They dont smell as bad as 2 or 3 year old gas though. Sent from my SM-J700T using Tapatalk

2020 - GEGcorp "Dirt Bobber Trike"

So last weekend I got this used fuel tank. It had been sitting in the salvage yard for years, probably outside and in or near the ground. I opened it up from the bottom (the cap is locked) and here's what I found. The fuel petcock was completely clogged up for the "reserve" position and would...

    GEGcorp - Papa Bear buggy

No thread left behind ! I got the Accord bearing cup a week ago, but have been trying to determine my next step. Heres the scoop. The ID of the bearing is larger than the Civic hub, so I think I will have to press the bearing out of the cup and put the Civic bearing in its place. Heres the...

2020 - Excalibur Electric Racing kart

Nice work on the bender and the tray. Are you going to weld on some 90* angle to the ends or notch and bend the ends somehow ? Sent from my SM-J700T using Tapatalk

    DNF - 2020 - $25 kart build entry

Nice project! I just noticed your build table is like a table saw. Is that a folding work table of some sort ? Really like having double duty for huge shop tools. Nice work. Sent from my SM-J700T using Tapatalk

    First Welder!

BTW, I am not a welder by trade, and never went to a welding class, so theres a lot of details left out of my pervious post, like yah - dont drag in a bunch of junk into the pool. I saw some teaching videos where the instructor had a technique for the zig zag motion called "walking the cup"...

2020 - GEGcorp "Dirt Bobber Trike"

Thanks you guys. Here are the pics I was having trouble with earlier. Left side low bar from quad front to engine cradle. I had to use the edge of the cutoff wheel to clean out the space where the black paint is in the space between the pipe and the bolt hole before welding. Tools for the...

2020 - GEGcorp "Dirt Bobber Trike"

Thanks @smerft85 . Just enough encouragement for me to consider the advice I have been giving for members that are learning the welding skill, and make sure I take the time to follow the best practices myself so I can do it right the first time (or second time, or third time... ;) Here is a...

    First Welder!

Aahhhh the puddle. Listen for the sound of sizzling bacon, not popping and spattering, but a nice sizzle. I like my HF auto darkening shield because I can see through it for final positioning and watch for a nice red glow after lettting off the juice. I watch the puddle to manage the heat...

Mini sandrail two seater go kart build

Theres lots of good videos out there on different welder types and techniques, so thats a good way to learn about how to use the type of rig you have. There should be a manufacturer plate or sticker on the back of your welder near the power cord that has amperage rating. While you are...

2020 - GEGcorp "Dirt Bobber Trike"

Tanks alot ! So it took me a couple of tries, but I was able to buy a rather large fuel tank to fit the CBR1000 donor bike. ($85 bucks total) Man, thats a huge tank, but it has some cool features like a fuel shutoff valve, a fuel level sensor, and a locking gas cap (but with no key )...

2020 - GEGcorp "Dirt Bobber Trike"

Weekend update: Decided to bend up a low rise handlebar because the brake hose length was going to be a problem using the motocross style. Then put the wiring harness on and discovered an issue with the "new" right handlebar pod. The part is from a CBR250 and has the same switches and plugs...

    Electric motor help

I watched some YT vids and saw a couple of variable speed drill conversions. That seems to be the way to go. They typically have a 1/2" HF drill driving a starter pinion from a car engine meshed with a flex plate mounted to the bead roller for gear reduction. Sent from my SM-J700T using Tapatalk

    Electric motor help

Couple of ideas for what its worth. I rescued some linear actuators that were on a hospital bed a few years ago that I just checked the RPMs on. They are reversable, but not variable speed unless you add a foot pedal like for a sewing machine (?). These are powerful with gear reduction but the...

searching for waterbike adaptation help me plz

I rented an upright pedal boat a few years ago on Town Lake in Austin, TX and it was fun, so I decided to take the side journey. There is a video on YT that shows it much better than the picture above or the web site. First 3 minutes of this video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5BI0t2jR4Qo I...

2020 - GEGcorp "Dirt Bobber Trike"

Its a roller ! Need to drill the steering column, then get the wiring harness back in place, then see if the years of storage have been kind to the carbs. I was surprised to see that both front tires lean in the direction that I put my weight as I was monkeying around on it like the chimps in...

2020 - GEGcorp "Dirt Bobber Trike"

Gaps in picture 2 are before final fitting. Pictures 3,4,5 are closer to final welding, which is not complete. Any gaps at this point will get their fill of .030 wire. Sent from my SM-J700T using Tapatalk

2020 - GEGcorp "Dirt Bobber Trike"

Thanks. Worked on the lower bars tonight until I ran out of wire. With the top welded, I started closing the gaps on the bottom bars. Lots of awkward grinder use to notch the tubes. Took a few hours of doing this before I got in the groove enough to start bending more pipe and hacking on them...
