    Does size count?

I mistyped, I have a 8 and a 11 HP, both with one inch shafts. And the Tecumseh I have no idea.

    Carb Ventura

When in doubt, take the sucker out of the box and really look at it. The new carb I mentioned is a Mikuni. I googled this, and found out it is a motor bike carb. It had 320 stamped on the motor side, and I take this to be the jet size. The inlet side is a little over one inch, the motor side a...

Sanman, how did the test turn out? I am doing the identical thing. Do I proceed, or do I stop?

    New Kart Project

It is best to read entire thread before opening mouth. I duplicated exactly what you did with the carb mount. Haven't mounted carb yet, ot started motor.

    Carb Ventura

How important is sizing the port on a carb to the port in the motor? I would think the carb would work if port was larger, or smaller. Just how well it works is another matter. I would suspect that larger is better. I ask this because I turned a vert. shaft B&S up on end yesterday, and had to...

    Does size count?

Thanks. In my mind, bigger is not always better. It all depends on what end result is looked for. I am not interested in racing, nor mountain climbing. And buying a T.C. for a 1 1/8 shaft pretty well constricts what the T.C. will fit. There are many more engines of various H.P. with one inch...

    New Kart Project

I have a 11 HP B&S vert shaft, and just made a spacer today to rotate carb 90 degrees. It is half inch thick, original bolt pattern is counter sunk machine screws, new mounting holes (90 degrees to old pattern), are tapped for new position of carb. It covers the machine screws. Spacer is half...

    Does size count?

I now think I would actually have to have two jack shafts if I come off motor with small sprocket to #1 jack shaft with same size sprocket, then T. C. driver from #1 to #2 jack shaft with driven, then small sprocket to large on axle. Am I right? Sometimes I cannot see the forrest for the trees...

    Does size count?

Aaaah, I think I seeee. I never thought of putting a jack shaft in front of a T.C. A sprocket for a 1 1/8 shaft and another for a one inch jack shaft would be a cheap solution, far cheaper than a machine job on the crank. Am I correct in thinking that ,standing behind the cart, the T.C. would...

    Does size count?

With a T.C, as opposed to a cent. clutch, can I get as much power (not necessiarly speed) from less H.P.? From what I am reading, I suspect that sometimes smaller is better. I have old motors, big and old but strong. But, I read good things about the later and newer clones. Weight , I suspect...

    Converting Vert. to Horiz.

The shaft is one inch, so no problem there. I thought the gov. could be safely removed, thanks for the confirmation.

    Converting Vert. to Horiz.

I see this done on You tube, with a 3 1/2 B&S lawnmower engine. Is this practicle? Will it work with a larger, say 11 HP? What happens when a governor is removed? I have rebuilt a carb or two, but always hook up as original.

    First kart

First of all, I am new to this forum, and to go karts. A couple of months ago, I decided I wanted to build a off road, and it has been a trip. Or maybe I should say a large learning curve. And the main reason I wanted to build is because I have three electric start motors, a 8 HP Briggs, a 18 HP...
