... and just for S & G, what is the part number for that belt, and what is the exact center distance measurement between both of your pulleys in those pictures?

It may not have been a 40 series... I believe the 30 series sits the other direction - and possibly others.

The way I understand it is you are supposed to set the center distance of the pullies to what the belt spec is supposed to be... If it isn't backwards, how does the belt not go all crooked when the drive pulley starts engaging. If you stand at the back of the engine, the drive pulley will push...

Are those pictures with the engine running? The belt looks very tight (from that angle) if the engine is not running. Does your center distance match what the belt is designed for?

Is your driven pulley mounted backwards?

Update - this weekend I will be working on some sort of weight holder for the front end of the kart. Right now it is so light that it just wants to understeer like crazy - maybe on a hard surface it would be a different story. Also, one of the tie rod ends broke. I made a little temporary fix...

lol why would I want to go on a scavenger hunt to try and help you? =P Depending on the TC, look at the belts that are available, and it shows what the center distance should be to run each of those belts. The jackshaft should be the same diameter as the inner diameter of the driven pulley...

They seem fine. I got it running, and this thing is so torquey! After I double bolted every jackshaft mount (so the shaft would quit slipping), and ziptied around the axle sprocket to keep the key from rattling out the thing feels great! I want to try and get some video up within the next few...

In the past couple of days I have made a lot of progress. Final jackshaft mount welded up, chain sized, belt mounted, pedals and linkages mounted (BTW, anyone know where to get stronger pedal return springs?). Figured out the throttle linkage. Got it about ready to run.

How did it mount in the donor vehicle? Usually I see either a big bolt on each side of the main rack cylinder (gear housing), or half-circle brackets with bolts on each side that go over the top with bushings in the middle... Possibly just fab the mounts off that?

Ok I'd like to make a different submission. This is the best of the kart project so far =P

Nevermind, I see that would have been much easier to set up, but will these not work well enough?

What would the benefit be? I am not familiar with those style bearings...
