    Manta II and Kelly Controler

Wheelchock. Nice setup. I am not planning on using a jackshaft. I am going to run direct from the motor sprocket to a live axle sprocket. Do you see any downside to that? I have not selected the motor yet; but, am looking at the Motenergy options. I am looking for a bunch of wheel spinning...

    SpiderCarts Recluse

I am currently building a stretched recluse. I made it 2" wider and 8" longer and am using an adjustable seat to allow my 8 year old and I to share. It is a bit tricky. I decided to flip the steering so the tie rods are behind the steering shaft in order to allow more flexibility with...

I am going to heed your opinion as it is in line with my gut on this thing. Thanks again.

    Manta II and Kelly Controler

Thanks itsid and d. I agree on the golf cart motor; but, have the same concern as dcastillo with most designed to accept a male shaft and requiring support on the business end. I did not realize that the Manta motor could only be controlled by adjusting the voltage. The chart that lists the...

    Manta II and Kelly Controler

Hey All, I have posted for specific advice in a few different threads on this site and received great feedback and am hoping I can get a little more. My son and I are building a stretched version of the Spidercarts Recluse that both he and I will ride. We are going electric (in part because...

    MIG weld advice for noob

Good stuff. Thank you. Along those lines, a welding instructor told me to spray the tip and diffuser with non-stick spray (i.e. Pam). I did and it has worked very well. All the splatter and gunk wipes away.

    MIG weld advice for noob

Thanks. Not all of them look that good; but, I do feel that I at least know what I should be doing and how to dial it in on the basic stuff. The key for me is reminding myself to be patient once I pull the trigger. It is a bunch of fun. I thought flying and scuba diving were exhilarating and...

    MIG weld advice for noob

Thanks guys. I am feeling more confident. The butt weld smack test resulted in the metal around the weld failing. I could also see good penetration. Going to jump in and start welding for keeps.

    MIG weld advice for noob

Thanks! Pretty is part of my concern. I understand pretty can equal weak. I have tried breaking one of my tube T joint welds (after welded on all 4 sides) and it held really well (gave up when the vice looked like it would tear from mounts). I don't have any 14 gauge flat; but, I will try to...

    MIG weld advice for noob

Hi All, Sunny Southern California chiming in looking for a little MIG welding advice. My 8 year old son and I are building a kart using a stretched version of the Spidercarts Recluse plans. I have been lurking on this sight for a few months and have found all of your advice incredibly useful...

    First kart project

Thank you for the info. I have read quite a bit about the steering issue. I thought I would just use the modded pitman to allow the push rods to cross over and angle the spindle brackets back 12 degrees. I am also going to be mindful of keeping as much weight forward as possible. We are...

    First kart project

Great job on the build! I just purchased the tubing, steering brackets and hangers to begin a Recluse build with my son. He is 8; so, we are going to stretch the frame 4" and widen it 2". Any words of wisdom? What was the part number of the caliper you wound up purchasing? Thanks and enjoy...
