Overdue Update
It's been way too long since I updated the progress on the kart. Saw my last post was last October...
My wife had our first baby in January. She is almost 7 months old now. Time really flies and what little time I do have is spent watching her grow.
Called a few trusting...
Here is the tach mentioned above. It comes with an inductive pick-up that you clamp on the spark plug wire. I tested it out on a HF 6.5 HP engine. My local oreily's had it in stock.
This is your best bet. I too did not want a digital reading and this is the cheapest analog tach I could find.
Thanks to Anderkart for the brake line spacer idea. It works great and you can get pretty creative with the placement of the lines. Here are some pics of the lines with ground clearance. The plastic lines have a 3/8" fuel hose slide over them for extra protection from cuts.
The bottom is a...
I finally got to drive the kart this morning :D I want to thank those who suggested a torque converter. The immediate acceleration is incredible for a 6.5 hp engine.
The chain skips (wraps) very hard sometimes during acceleration. If I easy into the throttle, the issue goes away. I adjusted...
First Fire!!
It has been a long road but the kart was started for the first time today! Hooked up my brake lines temporary and bled the air out. Added oil and gas and it started on the 2nd full pull.
Fast forward to the second half of the video. I got a close-up of the torque converter...
...sorry, I didnt even see this question the first time I read your post.
The frame will be painted black. I saw a cool trick with a hood one time where they painted it black and then foam padding over it and sprayed a light coat of silver/grey. (It's the foam padding you would put in a tool...
Awesome! Good to know!
Your correct. I have not touched the any of the electrical as of yet. I do plan to disconnect the oil switch from kill switch as you mentioned.
Brake kit from BMIkarts.com arriived. Anyone know the pros/cons of mounting the brake caliper forward/behind the rotor? Is there a better position for maximum torque or is it just preference?
Came home today and found my wheel/tire order waiting on the porch! I ordered from gokartgalaxy.com. They are a split rim design so assemble is very easy. The finish looks great....especially compared to the old stuff that came off the kart.
Test fit to check axle gear clearance. Going to have to raise engine 2 inches. Everything went well except some bolts/nuts they supplied were the wrong thread size. I think the blue mounting plate looks nice on the HF 6.5.
