    torque converter, um, conversion

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas I had a post all ready to go and then lost it when I was trying to add pictures by closing too many windows. Here's attempt #2.... Everything is installed and tested with tires off the ground. I'm waiting for the snow to melt to see if it really...

    torque converter, um, conversion

It's ON! it couldn't have worked out much better than this. I felt the mount alone was stable enough so I didn't include the 3/4" square tubing tongue to the old engine mount. See pictures.... :bannana: What am I going to do with all of that free space? * first aid kit? * sidecar? *...

    torque converter, um, conversion

It started with the simple desire to replace my clutch with a torque converter (TC). Unfortunately it wasn't just a bolt-on project. On my race kart frame I don't have enough room between seat and engine to fit the drive pulley and just moving it over to the right gets into axle bearings...

watching paint dry I paid a local fab shop a little to get my mount bent up to fit on the bearing hangers after I cut and drilled new holes. before: plan: after: I'm an impatient painter so it's outside while I anxiously wait for it to dry enough to bolt on and try it out.

HELP Can’t get sprocket to align with clutch

Do you have set screws here? You lose a few options for adjustment of the chain alignment and you'll have to replace more than just the sprocket when it is time to replace the sprocket. That's what comes to my mind. mckutzy may know of more examples.

HELP Can’t get sprocket to align with clutch

Thoughts: * You could flip the clutch over on the drive shaft and see how that changes things. But it may just throw the alignment problem to the other side. * I installed one of these for better positioning of my motor. It gave plenty of forward-back and left-right adjustment. You can...

    help with steering wheel connection

I drilled through both sides of the steering shaft and slightly into the collar so the tapered end of the pin would bite into it. The cut end of the pin is flat for the head of the bolt to spin on. Hopefully it won't loosen up over time. If it does, I'll be getting a new steering column...

The swing mount came in yesterday. Measure twice, (sketch, measure some more, draw, layout), cut once, (maybe cut a little more, file, bend)…. If flattened, here is what it would look like when finished. Hole template to mark the new holes and cut locations. If I bolt the stands of the...

    help with steering wheel connection

quantity over quality meh, it's close enough. but really, how much is my time worth? I wondered why the cotter pin on one of the front wheel spindles was threaded through as a single strand and eventually found out that the hole for the safety wire was drilled off center. After a few broken...

    help with steering wheel connection

The tube isn't collapsing and looks to be in OK shape. The bolt heads appear to be pulling through. Again, I don't know if this is a common setup or not. There are no splines on the shaft, it is just two allen bolts going through the collar the steering wheel attaches to. The holes in the...

    help with steering wheel connection

I tighten it, it gets loose. The bolts/nuts aren't backing off, but something in the connection is. The play in the system is from the two bolts holding the steering wheel flange to the shaft. I assume the inner pipe could be collapsing and I'll soon find out when I take it off. Any...

This got me thinking. Where do you keep your karts?

as posted on Craigslist 2006 Birel - $2900 this 2006 birel frame shifter kart is super scary fast, 130+mph scary!! motor is a 94 ktm 300exc, new build top and bottom. rode dirt bike for 2 hours, took motor off and had a fabricator make the motor mount and shift rod for the shifter kart chassis...

    torque converter, um, conversion

Expected arrival of the swing mount is in a few days so I've got some time to goof off before it gets here. I installed a sliding engine plate that makes adjusting the chain tension SO much easier than fighting the angled motor mount on the frame. I had to remove a few links to get the chain...

Every now and then I pick up a new way to burn free time. Over the last several years it's been nerf modding, yoyo, unicycle, , pinewood derby when my son was in cub scouts, etc. Lately the task has been tinkering with a go kart. I bought the thing not thinking that much about usability and...

    wrong tool for the job

I thought using a box end ratcheting wrench was a good idea until I tried to take it off. It went on the nut easy because the bolt could tip over to the side and make room. I didn't think ahead to figure out tightening the nut would stand it up and lock it under the flange on the engine block...
