The guy I bought it from said I had a hatchet brake...

(Go Kart)... and since I'm unleashing lots of power on my new engine, I'm wishing to get a bit drastic on braking. I have drive on one wheel and the brakes on the same wheel... is there a way to install front drum/disc brakes without modding anything?

Thanks!, Oscar

Dunno... it's like a round cylinder with a strap that goes all around it... one end of the strap is tied to the end of the kart frame, and the other to the brake line... when pressed it rubs against the cylinder and slows it down...

The rubbing part is like coarse sandpaper... I "cleaned" it and now it has great stopping power... but it still is a bit weak.

I don't have pictures right now... but here are some of the cart itself:

PS - It now has a different engine, removed body, a black spray paint finish, and new steering wheel. Working on the engine and frame itself right now.

Sounds like a band brake. Dang, you got a body on that and everything!

Hmm... I might do that! Thanks for the idea! That wheel does absolutely nothing. It's missing a couple of washers, so I'll have to work on it anyways.

New things on the kart you haven't seen yet:

Steering Wheel
Seat
Engine
Throttle cable
Wheels...

I have to order a ton more.

This was a promotional Go Kart. "Indy 500, May 24th, 1995"... 2 weeks older than me :drool5:

The owner said he bought it for $1499.99 there :ack2: !

It has 3/4 of the original wheels, and original everything else :arf:

I got it at a whopping $350! :sifone:

I'm probably gonna ditch the body for a custom roll cage, then make a complete clone of the body and put another modded engine on and the body.

No, but I said "like". I wasn't about to sit here and try to figure it out. I was just estimating.

My dad always comments me on how steady my hand is. I've already torn apart 2 stroke and 4 stroke and put it all back together and fired over just like new.

I work with cars mainly, but I do alotta go kart work. I haven't torn down a 2 stroke yet, but on the 4 stroke area, I'm going there really soon. I'm having to do the flat top piston, bore and hone the cylinder, and put in a billet rod...

So technically that counts as a tear down.

Oh, actually I'm 12. Next year, I'll be in High School

I'm still getting into welding. I still can't really find a suitable welder... (budget problems).

Car stuff - Oil Changes, oil filter, air filter, cold air intake installation, bleeding brakes, brake pad replacement, PCV valve and gromet replacement, battery and terminal replacement, transmission flush, transmission fluid change, and transmission filter change... spark plug change... recharge R-134a AC fluid... change power steering fluid... oxygen sensors... xenon HID light conversion... stereo head unit replacement...

Next up: Changing SAD shaft, replacing disc rotors, replacing catalytic conveter... replacing and welding on a aftermarket straight flow muffler...

That's it for now. Going to SeaFoam the brake booster line tomorrow. Gotta gallon of Mobil 1, a can of SeaFoam, and some tranny fluid. Gotta get to work soon!

It's weird. I'm average in my studies, but try to learn things people in a year into a week. Not bad for a 12 year old.

You'll like it after ALL the mods :devil2:

Just kiddin. What I'm going to do is take it FAR over "reality".

I'm honestly going to cut out and place in a custom light (rear and front) head setup, mini-ITX computer (I specialize in computer hardware), and maybe a stereo system. :drool5:

Think about it... a "real" Go CARt :sifone:
