could a mill cutter be used in a pillar drill, as normal drill buts wont easily cut straight through cylinder material, like circle bar/ tube.

im thinking he means end mill in a drill press? You could use one in a drill press, buy you cant use it to mill parts, how will you move the part up and down the y/x/z axis while its clamped?

the part on the drill press that goes down would have to do that. mine has a little adjustment that you can use so it dont go down to far.

You can't mill with a drill press, the chuck wont stay on. You can however use a milling cutter in a drill like manner, for making holes in places a twist bit cannot handle.

A Cobalt Steel Center cutting end mill is a good place to start. I got mine from Grainger. You can use an X-Y drill press vise. Adjust it to get the play out of it to keep chatter to a minimum. Z-axis feed must be done very carefully. This is best with a thread-on drill chuck. If milling Aluminum, use a 3 Flute for optimum chip removal. Keep your spindle speed around 2500-3000RPM. 4 Flute will also work. With any of them...work very slowly.
Keep in mind you're not going to be able to duplicate with any accuracy what a milling machine will do. But, for evening up a surface, etc. It'll do in a pinch.
