Hi everyone, so I've recently bought this 24mm "pwk" carb (I don't even know what pwk means but whatever lol) and I installed it on this 212cc clone, at first when I tried starting it, it did like 2 rounds and then died, decided to change the jet from 110 to 115, it became worse, no sign of life, then I put back the 110, and fiddled around with the air fuel mixture screw, I tried leaner by 1 turn, nothing, then richer, nothing. I don't know what I'm doing, can someone help? Thanks!

I guess that's a video of your engine running, but not sure if I trust the download... 😁
Okay I downloaded it. IT RUNNNZ!

You need to bolt that engine down a little better or does it just shake a lot?

Pity about your header wrap. Those take a metal "zip tie" to keep from unraveling but a hose clamp would work too, blah blah blah. Anyways, good job it is nice and loudddd. 😎

Well I put regular bolts instead of those ones w the plastic on them, and they just loosened because of the vibration, there's even one that took off lol 😂, yeah I'm gonna fix the heat wrap, I'm sure my neighbors hate me now 🤣, but DAMN I didn't expect it to be THAT loud, I was genuinely scared of it, that thing was angry, I'm just so happy my hard work paid off SO well, 1 year of work, the relief is insane. Now there's only a few steps left, putting some sort of support for the brake caliper and re-installing the bumpers and everything, and the kart should be done! Anyways thank you guys so much for your help!!!

Don’t rev it up like that with no load. Unless you want to scatter the engine. But good job getting it going!

He means without the chain connected to the axle sprocket and the wheels. Basically it's possible to rev the engine faster than it will ever rev on the ground and driving its wheels. Hell yeah it's a great noisemaker!

Was it idling at all in that video? It seemed to be racing before you ever touched it

Yeah I put the idle speed way too high, I'm gonna adjust it next time, also do you think the air/fuel mix is good? Or does it need to be adjusted?

Oops. Didn’t see this. How’s the engine running? Did you adjust the air fuel mix yourself? You can always pull the sparkplug out and read the color of the tip.

:roflol: :lolgoku: :roflol: ...Fashionably late. Wonder if kart_brrr will ever see this comment.

Well, umm, 4 months later and I am back, that's what I call fashionably late 😂, so hi again, I'm back here because I've left my kart neglected since the start of the summer due to the fatal heat, and now I'm back, it's in a really rough shape at the moment, it accumulated a LOT of dust and all sorts of junk, so right now the engine won't run (how unpredictable, am I right), I've cleaned the spark plug with a wire brush, it was pitch black so that's a sign that it was running really rich, the pull start broke so now I'm just using the wire to wrap it around the metal thing and pull, I've cleaned the carb and turns out the idle jet was completely clogged, replaced it, made sure the fuel was going in, and now it still won't run, do I try a bit more or do I check the piston or anything? I know for a fact that there isn't any problem with the cam, valve lash or anything because theres no sort of kickback or anything. Any help is appreciated!

Might have to tear it all down, Brr. I shudder to think what got inside the engine.

Oh my goodness, how did you do it? Did you fix your recoil starter too or are you still winding the rope manually?

Show us the inside of the cone air filter. I’m worried about your Tunisian dust 😬

Honestly I don't even know lol it just randomly decided to work, it was exposed to the sun and it hit a few times before fully running, this engine is just so weird lol. I can safely say that the air here sucks, but I removed and tapped the air filter so that all the dust comes out, and I'm still winding manually, it's actually somehow more effective than the recoil starter. Here's some photos:

P.S I'm planning on "restoring" the kart (cleaning all the debris, paint job, etc), any tips? Thanks.

Also another thing, I think the way that the flywheel is exposed like that is a bit sketchy, looks way too dangerous, I thought maybe I should cut up the old cover so that there's enough space to wind up and not leaving it fully exposed. Of course this is a temporary solution, just until I can get another recoil starter.

That is exactly why I call those a bug screen.
Cause thats about all its gonna stop from going into your engine.

Leave the starter cup alone. Find a new recoil or fix the one you have.
Your rope works better cause your getting more revolutions per yank than the recoil was.
A good rule is dont go poking your fingers where you wouldn't poke your di... um, you know..

Sitting dormant is the worst for engines.
The gas goes bad and turns to varnish as you found out. Just cleaning the jets might get most of the crud out but there are little air passages that must be clean to function properly. This is the main reason people have issues.
If it only runs with the choke on or partially on, the carb is plugged and not getting enough fuel. Restricting the air with the choke fixes the air/fuel mixture but its not the proper way to run things.

In the future, if you know its gonna sit for a while, drain the gas and let the engine run till it empties the bowl and sputters out on its own.
