In the old days I could cut a piece of solder with one shot at 50 feet and pop cans in half with about 25 shots with my Crossman. Steel wire hangers in 6” straight sections would go through a bird at about 75 feet. Got a few ducks that way.

I originally looked at break barrel but most of what I read talked about how you use the barrel to "pump" the rifle with a spring. Seemed crazy to be cranking on the barrel all time. But I guess they work well. Others complain that it's hard to do. Not really concerned about that. The nitrogen cartridge for the Umarex seemed like a good option. It doesn't have the issues CO2 does and provides about 850 fps on average. Yes, it is extra money all time and power decreases after about 30 or so shots. I may get a break barrel just to see for myself which I like better.

Sometimes a bb sometimes a pellet and sometimes nothing. Depended on the coat hanger and how thick it was .177 caliber.

You'll want that long barrel to compress that spring.

Multi pumps are nice cause you can pop that bird making a mess under your porch with 1 or 2 pumps and not make a hole in the roof.

My favorite is a TS-45.
Its a chineese side lever.

Tired of the multi-pump Remington AirMaster 77 I have (a rebranded Crosman) because of all the pumping you have to do for decent velocity. It’s a good all around machine for harassing varmints and sending a whistling ball bearing over the head of a barks-all-night yapper .

I get tired of walking out to change my paper targets.

Mini bike. I mean it’s good exercise but at the same time t’s it’s super tedious hoofing it out to 225 yards and back each time you want to change or examine a target. Plus it’s doing a service to all there if you’re at a public range.

So you guys going to get some NFA items now since silencers/suppressors, short barrel rifles and shotguns can now be purchased with just a 4473 and no ATF Form 1 or Form 4?

The Silencer Shop HQ is a 5 minute drive from my house. I planned to go pick up some suppressors I have wanted but as expected, they have sold out of so many. There has been a bill in the house for the last couple years that would allow suppressors to be sold without the Form 4 process and I assumed that if it ever passed, the suppliers would not be able to keep up with the instant demand. So here we are - the foreshadowing of things to come.

It did pass last year in the OBBB, HPA and SHORT act put the NFA tax on those items to $0, which means those items no longer require registry because the whole point of it was to prove the $200 stamp tax was paid on that item.

There was a Texas lawsuit brought forth by PSA, Silencer Shop, GOA, NRA. FPC and like 14 states, the judges ruled that since those items taxes were dropped to $0, they are no longer subjected to the NFA. He gave the Federal DOJ until yesterday at 5pm to appeal and they allowed it to laspe. So for the time, we are good to go.

Next step is to get this done nationally so there isn't a hoop to jump through.

My problem is that I still dont know why they are so expensive. I had maybe $5 in parts and an hour of fitting and welding.

Depends on the materials, tooling, design. The have overhead costs. I think the cheapest suppressor is like $200 for a .22Lr. 3D metal printing is not cheap for tooling. It is coming down in price, but not much.

Really comes down to what buyers are willing to pay. When they were harder to get than a controlled substance, the price reflected what people willing to wait almost a year (or more) would also be willing to pay. Admittedly, I am one of those people. I can imagine the margin is excellent. But then, how many suppressors does the average suppressor company sell a year? Margins probably have to be healthy to stay in business. If this all gets a lot easier, I expect prices will come down. I would not be surprised if the firearm manufacturers get into the biz and make matching units for their various firearms and sell them together in matched sets, or integrated into the barrels. I would.

All I know is, manufacturers are going to be printing money for a while now. Don't be surprised if cans aren't available for a bit after the next week or so.
