Mounting A Jackshaft

I would be tempted to remove the original mount and weld that one in its place...but then chain tension might become an issue. Maybe cut the sides off the jackshaft plate and mount it flat under the engine?

I figure if you use the stand off studs, you preserve the kart's versatility according to what drive system you want. Unbolt the jackshaft and you can use a chain + centrifugal clutch and turn it into an American Express or the clone of a Rupp Dart Kart or Clark Cyclops, etc.

The only real concern then is the chain guard under the kart, if you use really small tires. Just options, options, options.

Oddly satisfying photo.

I have the same guard on my Dingo--was wondering whether to cut it off or something. I need to measure the distance from the guard to the ground and then the sprocket distance to ground. There's probably not much ground clearance to be gained by cutting it off

They are there for good reason.
Another pic for proof.
I made a pan for the rear area to keep dirt and rocks out of the engine area. you can see the beating it took.
