The fun days of my job as a land surveyor.

Section breakdown.
The larger square is a mile each side.
Im gonna have to find 4 corners. Then the 4 mid points. That will let me find Center section. Then I can break down each quadrant.
The corners may or may not have been set back in the 1880s.
Ill be looking for sandstone rock piles with a scribe stone.

My customer lot is 160 acres.

My latest map from 1882.

A Google photo to show the elevations.

Any one want to come help.
Ill be camping in the back of the truck.
That longer side, thats about 10,000 ft? Am I right? I would love to do that, I hope its not tedious for you.

I use quadrunners a lot for some jobs. This one they wouldn't help. This is mule territory. Faster to just hike it. I also fly a drone for photogrammetry. It can also be used for scouting.

Landuse, do you know what GIS stands for? Get It Surveyed.
And what is an English foot. Is that a kingd!ck size?

Can't count the times the owner said the realtor said my property went to the bottom of that hill, or the county website shows my neighbors garage is on my lot.
I got to tell them that image is a cartoon drawing.

The old maps are always fun to trace. Its amazing how they counted a rag tied to the wagon wheel.
The stone monuments set in 1880s is with in a few feet of where we calculate with modern gps. And I don't mean your onX app. Our stuff uses several constellations of satellites with a base and rover. Accurate to .001+- of a foot.

For those that wonder what a chain is.
A steel tape with a length of 66 feet. 80 of them make a mile.
You can see on my map the south section line is 79.80 chains or 5266.80 feet.
They are hardly ever a perfect 5280.

Now imagine dragging that chain over and over. Make it perfectly on bearing and
you have to keep it level. Any incline has to be accounted for.

Those old guys were a different breed.

Edwin, I gotta bust your balls a bit. Pay attention in school.
I said each side was a mile on the big square on the map. Thats called a section.
My lots longest sides are half of that.
5280÷2=2640 feet or about 40 chains.

Its a 67546 Predator for a Pacific HydroStar pressure washer. Im not sure if the bore /stroke is the same or what the difference is. It looks old.
I squirted some go juice in the intake and pulled the rope. Fired right off.

Uncle has a Yukon he got from a botched auction. The yard put the wrong pics online. Had a clapped out suburban with calico panels and trashed interior. Nobody bid on it and he got it for cheap. He was looking for the LS/4l80 combo for another project.
Got there and it was this pristine Yukon.
He said I can't scrap that and decided to flip it.

-But ok I saw that "40 chains to an inch" and thought I knew what an inch was on that paper. Perspective was way off. -And I didnt read everything apparently
