Franken buggy went to the desert this past weekend for some fun and games and recorded this run:

At which point the crankcase side cover decided to part company with the crankcase. Bolts were sheared off and some were just backed way out.

So the question is: WTF? and WHY? all the bolts were put in with blue loctite.

Oh, I think you know the reason why it happened. Crankshaft harmonics. You overspend the balance of the rotating assembly. Everyone always talks about going to a better rod, different piston, or flywheel. Nobody ever talks about having a machine shop properly balance it all. And yes, any clutch should be included.

Not to discount your theory, but after the engine and CVT were installed it was run up (without the drive chain) and was surprizingly smooth. l’m thinkin the torque, transmitted by the chain is jerking it enough to pull it off.
The reason behind this theory, is the demolished engine mounts of a ccuple a weeks ago. That was torque. Ok well, maybe a little crappy engineering too.
Possible?

I remember, a few years back, a fellow forum member named Flying Hillbilly did a lot of kart racing with his girlfriends sons
...& posted about some issues he had with the side cover bolts coming loose on some of his beefed-up racing engines 🤓

IIRC he installed studs in the engine block
...& IDK what else? (nuts & lock washers or Loc-nuts or Loc-tite?) :unsure:

Maybe someone on here remembers what he did
...or can find one of them old threads, where he talked about it :cheers2:

Have you checked crankcase pressure????

You can check it with a vacuum/pressure gauge.

I use one way check valves to relief crankcase pressure.

You can jb weld the side cover on, but then a crankshaft seal will jus pop out.

No, but it has a 1/4 inch open ended (atmospheric) vent line. How could it be pressurized?

You don't have enough.

You need check valves to let the blow by out, and not suck in any more air from the atmosphere.

I've spend hrs testing the stock pvc/ baffle, what ever any body wants to call it, in the small blocks.

It's designed to run for a tiller engine, and it will hang OPEN at high rpm. This, and blow by is what causes too much crank case pressure, and will hammer on that side cover, causing the bolts to come loose.

If you removed the stock pcv, then you have created even more pressure.

Try it, open another vent hole in the valve cover or crankcase and put a vacuum/pressure gauge on it.

Go steal the brake booster check valve off your truck and test it again.

Sure, good idea let’s screw with the old man’s brakes. If he’s dead he’ll never finish Notagator. And besides I kinda like having him around. :stir: :lolgoku:

Real trucks don't have vacuum boosters.

I'll try it, without the check.
Real trucks got sbc engines and don't need turbos to get weight to move, 😆 😂 🤣 😜 😄
