Out curiosity I started the engine without the air filter housing on so I could see whats going on and as you guys mentioned engine won’t idle and there is a battle between the governor and carburetor
That video was not very clear on how to the put the honda throttle control on the kart and ebay listing was packaged so I could not see it
I will have find another listing showing the honda throttle control

Not be redundant but I can’t run with out the governor RIGHT?
That eliminate the problems!

Yes I noticed that in the video I provided
I wanted hook up my Honda GC 160 the same way as in video
But other members have said I cant
run the engine with out the governor
The Honda throttle control I cant see how that would work unless I see how it hooked up to the engine
I am very confused!!

Ok I’ve been re-reading the posts and have let them sink in (my brain is not working as well with age!)
I am begining to make sense of all of your comments and I appreciate them!
I think I will have to remove the governor from the inside completely
But first I will test the engine with governor disconnected from the butterfly on the carburetor and see if I can engine to atleast idle when I start it
I’ve noticed in the videos I watched on a governor delete the low oil sensor is disabled
will I have to do that when I do the govenor delete?
I’m afraid the honda throttle control (as suggested) won’t fit underneath the air box
Any further suggestions I would appreciate them
I thought this Honda GC 160 was going to be an easy fix boy was I wtong!
I list my findings when I start engine without the governor hooked up
Thanks again for all your help

Disabling the low oil sensor is suggested because when the engine is subjected to centrifugal forces experienced in a go kart, the oil of course "sloshes" (a technical term) around and the sensor can be triggered, ending potential joy and grinning, at least temporarily.

Mike, Is there a chance your friend can pick up a Predator at a local Harbor Freight or find a used small engine online? You deserve a lot of credit for trying to get the engine going but does he want you to spend endless hours trying or does he want to enjoy riding the kart? Sometimes things get to a point where it isn't worth it. Not trying to come across as a wise guy, only putting suggestions out there.

Not sure where you're from but I checked on Facebook Marketplace to see what was available near me, there is a Honda GX engine and a Simpson 6.5 HP engine posted. Both under $100.00. Check Craigslist or Offer Up.

Yes you are not being a wise guy but a wise man
I’m getting to the point where I have the kart for about a week and half and am getting frustrated trying to make it work: trial and error and looking it up on youtube is for the birds!!
I been working on it non stop!
ALTHO I GOT TO ADMIT I LEARNED ALOT PLUS THE POSTS ENLIGHTENED ME!
I going to give it one more “college”try and then I will be at point of going to Harbour Frieght or let my friend Steve pick up the preditor engine from HF
Mount it and tie in throttle cable and be done with
Thanks you all for helping me out
Keep you posted!

In all fairness the Predator212 will be the same exact hurdle.

The differences in this hurdle will be that the Predator is safer to delete the gov from (iron cam not platic) and has easily millions of possibilities in terms of upgrade options on the market... making it a much heavier hurdle to hop over.

Upgrades NOT limited to, but very much including throttle plate options for linkages still employing governor (IIRC there are throttle plate versions that simply limit the amount the throttle can be opened with a stop screw) and the more common direct to carb linkage for deleted governors.

I saw a video showing a HF Preditor 212 cc going on a Yerf Dog go kart pretty easily
It was kind of like plug and play

Most likely with a gov delete or a throttle plate like I pulled off the 212 Hemi I have sitting around

Well I’m going to use the Honda on one kart and I going to use the preditor (if I need to change it) on the other cart
We’ll see what condition the Tecumseh two seater go cart is in

“I am going make this work if it kills me” my quote LOL
An update on Honda GC160
I disconnected the governor lever from the carburetor (will take it out completely-eventually) and
used a long screw and a wing nut with one the ears removed and hole in the other ear to hold the spring to left side of the carburetor
On the right side of carburetor I put a piece of aluminum angle near the on/off switch drilled a hole and mounted it there with a cable holder
Then I put the throttle cable into a stop that screwed in to the butterfly
It works perfectly except I had to screw the idler screw in all the way and I dont think its enough to put the engine in a starting postion
All I know is when I stick a screwdriver blade in between idler screw and the stop on the butterfly it starts right up
But then it idles too high and engages the clutch
Looks to me it going need more precise adjustment of the idle screw to have the engine run and not engage the clutch—its real tricky
PS I also may have to-replace the air box cause it may not fit but I worry about that now

You might want to consider a Hauyi carb (stock type with an air screw)

It is probably a bit lean at pilot, or could be a product of no air filer... I don't see one in the pics.

It could very easily and most likely an intake leak.

You have the same engine as mine. If you can look for the manual throttle control lever on ebay or somewhere. That way it'll be just like any other small engine. Then just put a spring so it returns to idle after loosening nut.
