The whole situation here in the USA has become a political football, and we the people are getting our butts kicked. It is time to find the courage to stand up and be heard.

I can understand the lockdown and how important it is to comply....but when you say that people cannot buy cigarettes because you might share your smoke with someone and it is not safe....thats when i start questioning the govt's thinking. And it is fine to send kids back to school soon, but we better not sell cigarettes......!!

Today is the first slight easing of our lockdown conditions here. The govt. has decide to take a risk based phased approach. They decided that there should be five levels of lockdown, with 5 being the most severe. They have downgraded us to 4 from today. That means a bit more industry can start up, and people are allowed to exercise each day fro 6-9 in the morning. A pretty arbitrary time, but its better than nothing.

So....the govt in their wisdom gave people 1 days notice before the lockdown started 5 weeks ago to buy booze and cigarettes, as they said the sale of these is non essential and will be banned. People went ballistic and were very affronted. People have been going back to making home brewed pineapple beer and umqombothi (which is a local brew made from maize, maize malt, sorghum malt, yeast and water. It is not to my taste :D

And then last week when the president announced the downgrade to 4, he mentioned cigarettes could then be sold. Smokers were all happy until last night when they mentioned again that they would not be sold. People are going to riot, and hundreds of petitions are going around for people to sign. It is the dumbest ban on a product that i have heard of. This govt is really out of touch. I don't smoke myself, but i know a lot of people who do, who have been forced to quit the last few weeks.

So yeah....fun times! :D Fortunately I can work from home, and the office has said that we can continue to do that for the foreseeable future, even though i can go back to the office, till things calm down. I work for a large forestry/paper/pulp company. I am a GIS (geographic information system) analyst, so it is possible for me to work at home. Forestry/paper companies are an essential service, so i have been busy the whole time

I wish all this crap would just be over now

How is everyone else doing?

Wow Landuse, no beer & cigarettes?! That may have started a revolution here in USA. Shoot, we have people here whining cause they can't get their nails & hair done or can't go to the gym  From what I can tell, and my own experience :p people around here are drinking a lot more. :cheers2:

Texas has now even allowed Alcohol To Go. So you are free to order beer or mixed drinks as part of take out food order and even have it delivered to your doorstep  Governor recently said that he may make this permanent. I don't partake in that, I just buy a couple of boxes of beer that last me awhile.

Today, we go into phase 1 of reopening. Dine-in restaurants, movie theaters and non-essential retail shops can open but must operate at 25% capacity. According to local news, a lot are not though. Local polls show many people think it is too soon. I certainly will not be one those mouth breathers going out tonight for dinner & movie. Surely there will be plenty that are clamoring to go out, probably just to post it to/for social media. Like "hey look at me look at me, look at where I at, look at what I'm eating" Ughh! Bunch of narcissistic fools.

USA currently has over 1.1Million cases and 63K deaths in just these past couple of months and really shows no sign of decline....:ack2:

But hey, some people think that's just a drop in the bucket

Our state will be slowly opening up soon. They extended us until May 11th. Restaurants can open then, but tables must be 6' apart, parties no larger than 6 and restaurant capacity may not exceed 50%. Since April, my work has been on a 2 days on 2 days off schedule, with a minimum guaranteed pay of our quarter 4 2019 average, as per the CARES act. The only way we could make more money than our average, is if we brought in more work that exceeded our average. Which, unless you're a salesman, it's pretty much impossible when you only work a few days out of a full pay period.

At any rate, this coming Monday, May 4th, we should be going back to our full time schedule. But we are still guaranteed our pay until the end of this month. For the most part, we've been busy. People have been buying vehicles during this.

Meat packing plants have pretty much shut down here, which is a pretty sizable source of this state's economy. Toilet paper and paper towels are back in stock. Hand soap, not so much, maybe 10% of the normal amount.

If I had wanted to go fishing here, I could have, but, I'm not familiar with the handful of lakes that are here (I am from the land of 10,000 lakes) so I've just been bored on my days off.

Yeah, here in MI the governor shut down smoke shops and vape shops, but you could still buy cigs at the gas station. Most gas stations won't touch vape stuff after she completely banned all (nicotine) vaping products on a knee-jerk reaction to people dying from what turned out to be contaminated pot vapes. The courts overturned that ban.

She did allow liquor stores (even though you can buy at the supermarket here), lottery retailers, and marijuana dispensaries to remain open... You know, stuff the state makes a ton of tax revenue on.

Just about every retailer except big box stores and grocery stores was shut down. Most all business shut down, 1.3 MILLION unemployment claims in the last 6 weeks, myself included, even though my job through the summer is critical to ensuring we can even open next winter, and there's only 4 of us, who work anywhere from 20 feet to a quarter mile apart at almost all times. But nope... Can't work.

Best I can do is take advantage of the time, and the fact that I'm actually making more on unemployment right now than I do working 40 hours a week. Not burning any gas commuting, plus the stimulus check... Been able to get TONS of projects done.

The whole thing still makes me mad. The extra cash feels like dirty money, and so many people are being absolutely screwed by all this.

Land of the free, until it isn't! Starting to see the tyranny yet folks? How about that sherriff on the Hawaiian islands that threatened arrests if you walked on dry sand instead of the wet sand at the beach? No motor vehicles allowed on the roads taxpayers own all weekend? Oh and if you couldnt prove you were an essential worker when caught out youd be arrested for non compliance of an order that violates your constitutional rights in the first place! The people of Michigan in the recent armed protest of the local government have the right idea, remind your government who they work for!

That is probably the best thing about living in Michigan. Home of Vernor's ginger ale. Not alcoholic, but it puts most others to shame.

Looks cool, I havent seen it up here... but any time I see "craft brewed" Pop of ginger beers and ales, I definatly giver a try....
I really like the ones with can sugar and more natural type ingredients... Those type of flavors are much more appreciating than a factory run type of soda pop.

Sarsaparilla is another good one, we dont get much up here on that type, but it is sure good stuff...

If you're ever in the midwest mckutzy, you should try to find Sioux City sarsaparilla. Probably by far the best there is. Far as root beers go, IBC is probably my favorite, then Barqs, and then A&W.

We were supposed to go back to our normal work schedule this monday, but the state extended our lock down until May 11th. Which is fine by me, I could use a few more days off. Either way I'm still paid my average from 2019 Q4, up until May 25th so I'm not going to complain.

NO prison hooch this time.. but I did use some alcohol.....;/
Its been bugging me for a while now to fix or get a new light for the canopy on the truck...

The old one has the incandescent light bulbs and had a melt spot from sitting too long in a place... either way it wasnt hooked up....
I was at the Princess the other day and saw a nice new one in LED so I got that...
I made up a new harness and used a trailer connector plug for a disconnect.
I tapped into the tail light for the running and brake signal, soldered all the connections.

A little while ago I needed some more flux but was running low on my good stuff, at the time I wasnt going out much and of course nothing better to do ...
So I made some flux using pine sap. I rendered it down with Iso alcohol, filtered out the bark and dirt crap with a coffee filter, let sit for a while to still off the iso, and I have flux.
In the park nearby, there is a few pine trees that bleed sap and drip onto the ground. I have stepped into it once before thinking it was a gob of gum, so I remembered that and went back to it to collect some...
Overall that new homebrew flux I made, did the trick pretty good, not to mention it smells good too, albeit its alot stickier...

I've got a similar cap on my truck. Did the same sort of thing for my third brake light. I also added some little 1" flush mount red markers in the top corners and tapped into the trailer brake/turn light circuit for them. Back of my truck lights up like a Christmas tree when I step on the brakes, and the hazard lights and turn signals do a neat top/bottom wig wag pattern.

I realized after the fact, I could have bought a few more little ones like you, and did the L and R turning lights... Oh well... I did leave room on the 4pin cable plug(i just used the 2) to add them later, or actually add an interior light and just have that as the main disconnect for when I remove. I can always get a 2 pin plug later...
Im still waiting on what interior light to get.. On the amazon, there is a lot of choices with good reviews... Just dont know what to get right now...
