Old Member New Project Go Kart

Hi guys/gals, been gone a long time, life has changed, yet the passion still remains the same.. My brother and I recently acquired some new toys and amongst them was an incomplete kart. Not sure if its homemade and/or an original model kart. single seater. It has a Live Axle Setup. We just purchased a Torque Converter for it. It has disc brake. Purchased some new tires a
throttle cable and a carburetor for the GX270 that will power it. spent the last few hours sanding the frame down. Tomorrow we will mock up the engine and torque converter to see what modification needs done for proper alignment and then i can paint the frame. Think we will replace all of the hardware on the kart as well. Any advice input would be great. Thanks for the picture hungry members here are some.

Mrmonk already called it, it's a Manco Dingo with Springer spindles! That's my favorite model of dingo, that looks the most like the AmEx.
Can't wait to see this build!
Are you painting the kart that orange? Because I like it!

We decided on a very off Blue for paint. The pedals and linkages small pieces will be painted black. the rims will be refreshed. So stoked the TAv2-30 bolted up! I know its a little small for the 9HP but the price was right. Cant believe those things are only $53 now a days....

Okay got the motor tore down. Cylinder needs a lil love but ill get it squared away.

Just ordered 65lb Valve Springs and ARC rod

Anything else i should grab for it?
I opted for springs and rods when i saw the previous owner bypassed the governor.

And FYI Tpdingo, I think stock GX390s have 40ish lb. valve springs.

Either way, it's not unimaginable. Probably has something to do with the massive torque these big blocks produce.

Do you think the stock cast flywheel will suffice?
Not looking for crazy output but certainly want some reliability around 6K rpm
Head is apart now and I will begin porting it lightly.
I plan to be running the new stock carb so long as its not leaning out.

I think a cam would be a little overkill and I would only run one if i could find a killer bargain somewhere.

Rear tire Size 18 9.50 8
The torque converter is I BELIEVE 12T
what sprocket would you run having 9HP and no governor?

80T is what I would run.
At 6K it could be done with a stock flywheel, but make sure it looks visually Ok, and everything is torqued down to spec(lap the flywheel too). And even then, don't hold it at 6K too long.

Thanks Ive decided on a 72T Sprocket to keep the RPM slightly lower than 80T

Hey that's very similar to what I'm going to paint budget go kart was that cheap Menards dark metallic blue?

I'd think punching it out 0.020" over and re-sleeving the cylinder. Hopefully it's just surface and nothing terrible.
