I was given this 20 hp engine and want to know the best way to put it on either my golf cart or a go kart, should I be using a tourqe converter? How can I get a reverse gear

Your in snow machine territory with that motor...
It has a 1" shaft, its bigger than most other CVT. Itll also have to handle the power of the engine...

For the most part it wont be easy and/or cheap...

Not really. That's beyond the design rating of a 40 series. If you were gentle on it it would probably be fine, but who's gonna take it easy on a 20hp go kart, right?

I'd look at a Comet 780, it'll be quite expensive, but it'll handle the power well. That Vtwin also has some modification support within the race mower community. So billet rods, flywheel (with starter ring gear), cams...can be had for it.

A comet 40 is not really suited for 20HP. Look at the Comet 780 and maybe some snowmobile TC's if you can get them to fit

A reverse gearbox. Probably need to find one from an ATV.

Gear as normal, then have a separate reverse circuit.....
Youll have the engine to keep a charge in the battery, and also the power to go forward....

I guess that's one way to do it, I'll keep that in mind, I see where this guy used a 1992 Polaris atv trail boss transmission, do you think that would handle 20 hp?

Lucky i want one but if you can find a cheap knock off 780 or 40 series i would say be careful and dont kill yourself i have a 30 series on a 13.5hp subaru so i gotta go easy on it

If you leave the engine bone stock and gear it right I personally think a genuine comet 44 series will work. NOT a knockoff. And a lighter kart.

My modded 420cc has a 44 magnum and was fine til I reved it past 5,000 rpms.
