Go Kart ID- what did I buy?

I dream of doing a build like that someday, especially with that frame! Biggest limitation is money, obviously!
What would be even cooler is if you could do a stroker flathead! It would still be approximately the same price, but it'd have the awesomeness of period correctness!
I'm kinda surprised you have the willpower and depth of pockets to do a build like this!

For the tires and gearing I would for sure do big fat daddy tires and probably something like 9/1 gearing.
That way it can do wheelies and off roading and all the fun stuff! I have no idea what the original tire sizes are, can't help you there!

Lol 9:1 might flip it over haha. No easy access to flatheads. Predator is my go to. I work at Harbor Freight so I get a predator for about $90. Just checked the spindles and they are a common size that BMI sells. Examined the floor pan and it is good even, The underside. Needs a couple 1” welds to secure it better but that’s it. One steering upright needs a little weld but honestly those are the only structural faults that I can see. The previous owner protected the kart from further corrosion, but he didn’t smooth the kart before paint. I might sandblast it, then paint with POR 15 and then finish it off with Berliner. Black it out, ceramic coat the header black, black wheels, and make it a murder Baja

My pockets aren’t that deep lol, that’s why I build miatas...and now go karts evidently. I moved twice in 7 years. With both moves I did well with the sale and helped me to pay off debt from when I was younger. I don’t make much now, but I don’t need much either thankfully.

The Spiderbox Build is what’s going to be really expensive. I expect it to be close to $3000 with a stroker motor and all the rest I have planned. Not sure how long that will take...hopefully this year. Finishing the 3203 and starting the Baja is my new priority.

You also live here in Texas, so you know how brutal the summers are. The only reason I painted my kart black is because I think it was the original color of mine, and the kart was two colors when I got it.
Rust and black.
I would've liked to do blue so it wouldn't get so hot, but black it was since it already was!
Blue is the least heat absorbent, while black is the most.

Also, 9/1 would be pretty low, but you could counteract that with 20"+ tires!

I'd do a metal flake paint job (e.g. metallic) and make it 1970s cool because that is an ugly blue to be honest.

The 210mvp is nice. That is what I have. When I get some spare funds for a new welder I’m goomg to get the omnipro 220 from HF. For the Baja the 210 will be perfect though.

I ordered an Azusa 14” jackshaft. The stock jackshaft was not threaded. The Azusa has 1.5” threads on each end. I’ll Cut 3/4” off each end. The threaded end will allow me to secure torque converter properly.

Next I have to find a double ended stud 8.5” or longer, for the idler bar.

Alright folks. Small update. I have ordered new spindles and the peerless differential and sprocket. Gearing will be 54/8...6.75 with 18” tires. This will let me go to a 6.0 by simply swapping to a 9t if the need ever arose. There is a 60t and 70t available also in case I need it. The idea behind the 54/8 with 18” tires is obviously increased acceleration AND more clearance between the ground and the sprocket. The kart is very light and I am only 160lbs. Total weight of kart with engine, wheels/tires and myself should be 300-325lbs. This will be a lot less stress on the 8t than some of the bigger buggys put on them.

I also talked to some powder coating companies today. While I could strip the kart down and paint it myself, I like the durability of powder coating. A local place will sandblast the kart, powderxoat it, then a layer of “clear coat” powder coat for $250...expensive for a gokart build but should last the life of the kart if I store it in the garage.

I am going to add another piece of steel for where the seat mounts, and also to add some more rigidity. I plan on making a couple gussets to tie in the lower frame with the seat upright bars as well.

Should I make/move the thread to a “Build Thread” ?
