I love them old flatties too. Just something about taking off 8 bolts and the insides in all their Glory are visible.

It's not quite either. It kinda bottlenecks right after the flange, and then about 4 inches along it expands for about an inch before it hits the second stage.
I think it's a tuned header!

Thanks Hellion! Yeah, I've heard people complain about the flatheads, like "Oh, but where would I get parts?"
Ebay, Amazon, Outdoor Power Direct, ereplacementparts.com, Repair Clinic, DynoCams, etc., etc....
They're everywhere.
And they're super simple engines!
I've kinda always had a fascination with old engines. Whether it be classic cars or go karts!

You should try and work on a Ford Flathead I4 or V8. Its like a giant Briggs! When you are done, stick it on a go kart.

Actually the Briggs would be more like a tiny Ford flathead....
But, yeah, I can't wait to see what this thing will do with stage one mods! And it'll look wicked with the header...

Actually the hotrodders first engine wouldve been about the model T and A engines...
They are really blown up briggs with water cooling....
Basic as they can get....

Was helping my buddy work on his model A, trying to get it to start...At that point, I have never see nor worked on one... already read my #14 briggs manual...GTG... Was pretty much familiar with the beast...
Justa few looks on what to do with the timing to start it with the new distributor setup that was new... but we got that thing running in no time... At that point, It hadn't run since 1972(this was about 2 years ago)......

Absolutely. As cars keep getting more complicated, computerized, chock-full of gizmos, managed by CPUs (ugh), I keep going in reverse, technologically.

Love the aftermarket overdrive and tranny in this T--12 speeds forward and 6 in reverse...LOL. Now the engine can be spotless and basically perfect like the owner has it but the "not a straight panel on it" is just my thing.

Definitely like the later Model T's and the A's....
