Engines needs compression to work. It's a Thing.

j/k. Been there done that. Most errors in performance applications cannot be measured by the human eye alone.

It finally stopped snowing in Chicago, but now the rain.

You know that old saying, "All Rain and no Sun makes Bob's a dull thread."

OK, time to save face and get this thing started.

Oh wait, there are no tires.....

It has come back to life. But I seem to get the highest RPM when the Air Screw is turned all the way in. It likes when I cut off the air, because there is too much of it - or not enough fuel. Need Bigger Pilot Jet.

See some times I know what I'm doing.

Should have gone with footloose on the last one. but Sublime makes up for it.

Maybe even some Doors. MOJO RISING, that's a cool kart build name.

Big plans for this evening. Me, my gas tank, my drill, a Size R Bit (not sure I have a Q), a 1/8-27 NPT tap, two 1/8-27 NPT x 1/4" Hose Barb 90* Elbows, a tube a Permatex High Temp Thread Sealant,...

Tank is getting an additional vent and a return port.

I still really need a nice complete drill bit set!

Going to test the fuel pump soon.
I suppose, with the return line hooked up to the tank, even with the engine off - I should be able to run the pump without the carb flooding, right? And without damaging the pump?

If working correctly, once the float raises the float needle and shuts off fuel to the carb bowl, all the fuel from the pump output should be redirected back into the tank. Right?

If the shut off valve in the return line is closed, I will get max psi at the carb (1-2 psi).
This may be too much pressure for the float needle and seat.

If the shut off valve in the return line is all the way open, I might get half that pressure at the carb (0.5-1 psi).
This will hopefully bring the pressure down so I don't have fuel pushing passed the float needle and seat.

The pump flows a lot of gas (at low pressure). 15 gallons per hour or something, so I don't think the T and return line will cause an issue where the bowl will run dry. Even if only half is going to the carb, that is still 7.5 gallons per hour to the carb. I wish my engines consumed 7.5 gallons of gas per hour. 16 oz per min. That would be some real HP there. ~95 HP with BSFC of 0.50

I didn't want anything any bigger, and the Honda GX info I found said nothing smaller than 18Ah. I assume I need an 18Ah deep cycle battery to put out the CCA for the starter motor. This battery is like 12lbs.

If you count the fuel pump and battery, I probably have one of the heaviest Hemi Predator 212s ever created.

I don't know how good the charging coils will be. I have a 3amp charging system, so I guess that means I have 3 amps or 36 watts to use. The pump uses 1 amp. I could use one 25 Watt headlight. The charging system might keep up with that. Maybe even the pump and a 36 watt headlight.

Any more electronics and it will be pulling from the battery if the charging system can't keep up. Or If not running well or becomes hard to start, multiple electric starts in a short time will probably drain it fairly well?

You might want a poppit valve on your return line. Let it regulate the pressure to the carb.
If you have one I missed it amumgst the plethora of pages...

I don't have one. Got a link? I'm not sure how that works. Like a blow off valve chingadera?
If it is a bypass valve, then do they have a spring for 0.5 psi?

I was just thinking about if I need a check valve in the return line. The tank will he higher than the carb, so I think a check valve preventing the "return" fuel from getting back to the carb is a good idea?

Exactly. Just a spring and ball in a tube with fittings on each end. The spring pushes the ball up stream closing the valve till the pressure over comes the spring allowing fuel to pass.
Used in the mechanical fuel injection pumps on alcohol setups.
Not sure on where to get one for low low pressure though.

Hmmm???
If gravity provides 0.5 psi and the pump outputs 1 psi, then I should probably locate the pump near the tank (same Heighth LOL). Otherwise the return fuel might not have enough pressure to overcome gravity. Also not sure the pressure would be enough to crack a check valve if fighting gravity.

I should stop wondering and just test it out. Tomorrow.
There's a possibility the return line isn't even needed at all.
Maybe this carb with stock float needle/seat can handle 1-2 psi (when I don't screw up the bowl installation).

Here is my idea.
Tank on rear rack of bike. Petcock On extreme rear.
Pump hose clamped to frame behind plastic, just under the seat.

Only thing missing here is the hose to the carb.

I think I can use this relay to turn the pump on when I turn the key to the "On" position?
I know nothing about relays except they are like a switch that turns something on or off when current passes through a separate circuit. Current activates Electromagnet which moves contacts.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Motor-...042788&hash=item33cafd46fb:g:05UAAOSwBnVW8gnj

It is for 12V. Up to 40 amps. Waterproof. Has a mounting tab.
Should work right?

I still need to figure out which wire to use to for the coil leads in the relay?

I really want something that will turn on when I turn the key to "on", turn off when I turn the key to "off" and also turn off when I hit a remote kill switch on the handle bar. How do I do that?
