Predator 6.5 hp 212cc engine shaft stuck

So I bought a brand new predator 6.5 hp engine for my go kart. When I first got it I added engine oil and gas and started it, it started right up no problem. I let it run for probably 3 minutes going very easy on it and it ran great.

Then I had it in my car to bring out to the shop and I left it in my trunk over night. When I got it the next day I realized it had tipped forwards. There was no oil or gas leaked in my car but when I went to start the engine the shaft would turn fine and then get stuck. I could turn the shaft backwards all the way up to the same point again but it would get stuck again. It was stuck hard enough that I couldn't pull the pull start. If you turn the shaft hard it will go past the hard spot but then when it turns normal around back to the spot it gets stuck again.

I took out the spark plug and then the shaft was able to turn freely and easily. But the spark plug seemed to be covered in oil and the first time I spun the shaft with out the spark plug in a little oil spat out. Could oil have possibly leaked into my cylinders? And if so could that be the reason for barely being able to turn the shaft at that one spot? What should I do?

Might have been some crap washed up in the way by the tilted action........

If its still under store warranty..... maybe return it....

I would venture a guess and say the oil leaked up into the cylinder when it was tipped on its side and filled the cylinder with oil. If you clean as much of the oil as you can out and clean the spark plug completely off, it should start fine. top it off with oil if it needs a little more, depending on how much got in the cylinder. If it starts, it will smoke a lot for the first little bit, but once the residual oil burns out it should be fine. And by the way, it only has one cylinder, not cylinders.

But if you don't want to mess with it or it wont start, yes maybe return it. HF is usually pretty good about taking it back and giving you a new one.

I agree. There's fluid(oil) on top of the piston causing a hydolock situation. It can be fixed. The easy way is to drail all fluids and return and start over, or set engine up right, clean top of cylinder of oil, and let her smoke a while. Depends on your skill level.

Nah, fix it yourself and learn something. It's your fault anyway.

But yeah, a portion of your oil drained into the cylinder and the engine cannot do a complete cycle, much less reach full compression with reduced volume in the cylinder. It's trying to compress all that oil plus whatever air is in there and it cannot.

It's hydrolocked like WTR said.

It ran fine. fix it... Hydro lock isnt hard to fix in that situation seeing how its not even bolted down to anything... goo excuse to tear it apart and understand your new engine

Alright, so I got the engine to run this morning after draining out all the fluids. As you guys said it smoked a lot when it first started but then started running just fine. I turned it off after about 5 minutes and it wasn't smoking very much anymore. Thank you guys for the help!
