So in the "poboy way of life" have you ever dabbled in leather work?

I got some bits and pieces, I figured I should make a shell holder to strap to my shotgun. Unfortunately, the leather I got is old, dried out and cracks when bent.

Got some neatsfoot oil ordered that should help prevent further cracking.

The thing with th shells was a practice piece... to figure out how Im gona make the loops. It was old leather, one of the spaces tore out when I pulled the strap too tight. :roflol:

I thought if it worked it would make a nice unit to put on a belt... ohwell.

Yeah, somewhere in this horders paradise is a set of leather working tools. I made a fairly intricately "carved" Western belt.

But, I think I'd just buy a stock shellholder from Wal-Mart or something. But, it's all about the DIY, right?

Now, remember, Ft. Worth has the Stockyards. It also had several packing plants. A guy named Tandy made a fortune selling tanned leather kits and tools for the leather working hobby.

Tandy went away, but there are still some places that mainly cater to saddlemakers.

Since, I have a blackpowder rifle, I at one time checked out a possibles bag kit. After seeing the price, I went to Goodwill and found a ladies cowhide colored purse.

I wouldn't suggest poking any fun about that while I'm holding a Kentucky rifle. LOL.

I just got some leather "carving" tools with this leather. I might try to put some sort of simple border, or carving on the stock shell holder.

You mean China-mart dont you? :D
I supose they might have a leather one available, but weather or not they have one for a lefty...

As you said, there is something to be said for making something yourself... its probably cheaper too... :roflol:

I havnt made much... just a couple sheaths, and a holster for my 45. I intend to make more.

No, ChinaMart would be K-Mart or Target.

Wal-Mart actually makes a pretty concerned effort to buy American made.

Just shop the 3 and difference becomes obvious pretty quickly. Hardly anything I get from Wal-Mart is crap, anything from the other 2 that isn't.

I wouldn't know. My visit all the Wal-Marts in the Country is low on my bucket list. However, in the early days, Sam Walton had a serious commitment to buying American made goods.

Even though they kinda got away from it after his death, it still has at least twice as many as the others. And the foreign made products are MUCH better quality as well.

One quick question, Beal, do you shop the others and prefer ANYTHING they sell over WallyWorld?

His kids destroyed his legacy. They've really done a complete 180 on what he believed in, all in the name of profits.

His kids destroyed his legacy. They've really done a complete 180 on what he believed in, all in the name of profits.

But they can only get 1/2 the blame. Just like the people that use illegal immigrants for profit, it's all fueled by greed.

And the REAL destructive factors to the American economy and way of life....is the EMPLOYERS! You probably couldn't pay a guy from S. America to come here, unless there was a BIG profit in it. Some of these people have come across nearly a whole Continent....

Anyway, WE ASKED FOR IT!

And what would YOU do? If you were desperate for money, you could go to a place a little bit away and MAKE A FRIGGING KILLING....What would YOU do?

In other words, I hold no ill will to ANY illegal immigrants, however, I think they all should be removed.

Let's see if we can put this in perspective, with a simple analogy, and maybe dodge the racist innuendo, But examine the problem without rascisinm or politics.

You would probably do the same thing they do. (I would!)

So even though I HATE Mexican illegals, ( they have destroyed my livelihood), I DON'T hate the Ethnicity at all

Soooo..your thinking, what is this crazyy SOB talking about?
Well, It's not about ETHNICITY....it's about LEGALITY. .!

That's it!!! I know if you're just a little bit outside of this, it might be hard to fathom your CAREER being STOLEN.

It's a gray line poboy.

I've worked where I've seen immigrant contractors come and under bid the union guys, skip out on paying their bills, ship all the money back home and build super nice homes for their family, and then skip back home at the first sign of trouble. And there's nothing we can do.

I've also seen the immigrants that come and shack up with others, work their fingers to the bone doing hard manual labor(that us privileged folk won't do) because it's better than what they had back home. And we want to give them free rides back.

Your both right.

I'm all for hard work.

I'm against scamming the system. Well sorta.

But when I have to pay for others who are ruining for us all, then it's a different story.
