No idea on the harmonics, I'm sure it's probably a factor.
I can tell you this though, I'm sold on the gov mod. I'm sore all over from riding so hard so much. The engine runs like a top and even gets on the governer on the end of one straight.

I hear you on the soreness. Haha. I've broken every bone from the waist down, not joking, hands, ribs, nose and skull.

I'm 51. Still going on 18. Haven't got time for the pain. Don't have much time left anyways, that's ok, my best insurance policy don't cover natural causes. That gives me a million reasons to get crazy and step off the edge for my son's.

Looking good man!!!
I pulled the governor on my kart today when I put in the billet rod and the new cam. Still have one more hemi with the 5k governor mod making it happen though

That's a decent track you've created there. Looks very smooth or is that just a visual deception?

When did you do the first oil change, you know, to get out all the fresh ring shavings?
My neighbors made that, it has a few bumps, but it's smooth enough that we have a lot of fun on it.
Haven't touched it yet. Still on the same oil it started on. I'll change it before I ride it more. 6 hours of wide open riding should constitute broken in IMO.

Oh, I see. This is a torture test just like all your other endeavors. You're such an engine sadist!

Yep, do everything as wrong as I can and see how it works out.

Nah, for once FHB is doing something that seems more standard fare to me.:lolgoku:
Build it, throw a Predator 212 on it,and run it.

Exactly, what I'm doing is testing the gov mod and the no break in time for myself. I figure I'll whip on it for another weekend and then pull the head to see what the cyl wall looks like and if all seems well, switch to alcohol while leaving the gov alone to see how that works. If that goes well it goes to alcohol + nitro.

And never change the oil. I am formally petitioning him to never change the oil, but add it only as needed. Let's see how it does. Are you game, FHB?

We should have a thread dedicated to the longest-running engines on the forum. Pity we haven't all started with hour meters installed so we can share the numbers. A clear photo of the hours run and the year/month/day the engine was purchased. They do it with cars and odometer readings, well why can't we do similar just for the sake of gloating? :D

I'll have to change the oil when I go to alcohol, but won't until then in the interest of science (hackery)
If it survives another weekend of the same treatment then I will have no problem telling people that I believe no break in is needed, but do it if it makes you feel better.

Running on the original, initial oil isn't going to kill it in a week or a month or even a year.

It'll probably last ten years but I would guess it'd be one smoky engine right up to the end. Just kidding on the torture test. Alky will be quite enough abuse for the engine as-is. :p

Well in the interest of "Lack of knowledge". 2 years ago before I ever heard of break in. We threw the 212 engine on my Daughters Kart Ripped on it and changed the oil 6 months later. No smoke no issues. 25 months now.

Seriously, governored, they will last almost forever on the original oil, as long as there is enough in there. I have come across too many small engines that have lasted for years. Removing the air filter will kill one much faster.

My governer is set ALL the way up too. It still works, but I'm waiting for it to float the valves when it does. It surges just like a normal governer. I'm going to try to get all I can out if it while still leaving it governed. I'm inclined to agree with poboy that it just might last almost forever.

Short version: I'm out to see what a box stock unopened predator bottom end will take with the gov all the way up.

Swapped in a set of 10.8 valve springs, and put the header on it. It seems to run better and the valve train noise is gone so I know the valve control is better (I rode it for a while before I put the header on). I also grooved the rear tires and it seems to have better bite.

I've also decided to put an 18cc Honda head on the rota-derp. Since the rota-derp has 27/25 valves I'm going to swipe those and put them in the 18cc ported head.
