After a nice ride yesterday, I got off the bike and slightly toasted my leg.
Some where along the line, vibration killed my exhaust shield, and it's laying somewhere out in the great expanse.

A friend of mine is coming up today, and were gonna fab something up. He may be a bit better than I at fabbing, so we'll see.

Now...you did not provide a video with audio of your first pipe, correct? I say that because I'm asking for a comparison between that one and your final, longer chrome pipe.

But I can already tell how the longer length has tuned the sound for a lower, 'throatier' tone. That's neat how that works.

It does look nice. What is the chrome pipe exactly? Shower curtain rod?
Show us photos if it later turns all colors of the rainbow...

No, there was no audio of the first one. As I said before, it was way too loud, and sounded more like gun fire than exhaust, so there was no need to record something I was not happy with.

The exhaust is comprised of a bent steel pipe, with essentially, as you say, a curtain rod slid over it, that fits like a glove.

I lost the original heat guard the day before yesterday out in the boonies while visiting a friend. He sent me a message last night that he found it on his road, and will be dropping it by later today.

I found out yesterday when preparing for a new guard, that the flange I made up cracked and broke. My weld held though.
We cut off that part of the pipe, made a new flange, and welded a short piece of pipe to it. We then found a piece that fit almost perfectly inside between the new header, and the old pipe.

They slide together tightly, but yet provided a little stress relief for any movement of the engine. The pipe is hard clamped to the frame via the new aluminum heat guard.

Mind you, we could have made the guard shorter, but this guard is not only to protect my leg, but more to protect my dogs feet when they jump up.

At this point, the whole thing is a working mockup. I'm going to take it all apart, clean up the header weld, and paint it with black bbq paint that is rated at 1700°.
I'll also clean the guard up some by rounding a few a few corners, and smoothing out the edges.

There's a whole lot of room for ideas on decorative cuts for the guard. I could put a handful of diagonal cuts in the face to help with cooling and aesthetics. I could drill some holes, like maybe with a half inch bit in some pattern, or possibly take it to a machine shop and have some wording cut into it. I haven't decided yet, and am open to suggestions.

My 60T sprocket is sitting at the post office anxiously waiting for me to pick it up and bring it home.
I need to find some good instructions on working chain without a breaker because I'll need to add some links for the new sprocket.
Then I suppose the chain guard will need some mods.

I ordered an old school speedometer/odometer I hope to mount on the bike as well once it gets here.

Next month, the wife's bike is going to get some upgrades, starting with a whole new drive system consisting of a TC, new chain, and probably a rear sprocket.

The pipe WAS supported by a rubber mount. It's now hard bracketed to the rear part of the frame.

Joe. As far as Chain. The Connecting Point is always the weak link. So adding to the chain creates 2 weak links.
I would replace the entire chain You do not want to get "Poboyed" out in the middle of nowhere!

If you insist I will give you instruction for breaking a chain without buying an expensive tool.

FINE wait for a second Opinion.
Anyway. I just grind off a pin. Hammer it out with a nail, then connect with a standard "link"

Be careful when measuring and cutting. There are Male and Female links, So it is easy to end up being a link or 1/2 a link short.

If not, maybe you can add a slant cut fore / and aft / for some "motion" or implied speed.

Eh, you should always have some spare master links with you and even some half links--they will get you home.

Hey, I never said it was gorgeous, but I do believe I said it was functional.
I suppose at some point I could buy a fancy guard too. But for now, it's a matter of using what's on hand.

I could start a go fund me here, but man does that make Sid non compos mentis!
