I recently got a Go Kart (Manco EZ Rider GL) with a Tecumseh OHH60 6 hp. I thought since hid had most likely never been done, that I should clean the carb. After doing so, it would not start. I then found that I had not put back in a necessary gasket and lost it. So I bought a new carb for 13 dollars and I put it in today. The engine doesn't start. I use the prime bulb 10 times, then I yank on the cord to no avail (after 10 presses on the prime bulb it used to fire right up on first pull). So I used some starter fluid, and it started right up, but had a rough idle and seemed to be running at low RPM. So I screwed the idle screw all the way in, and then twisted it out one turn. Still, no start without starter fluid. I then started it with starter fluid, to which it ran normal, with some puttering (almost seemed as if it was surging). So I let it warm up, then I got on. Any amount of pressing on the throttle pedal would result in the engine dying out, but not completely shutting off. I slowly eased on it (almost millimeter by millimeter) to which it would be very rough. I made it down my drive way (about 150 feet) and turned around. I then repeatedly tapped my foot all the way down on the throttle, which worked slightly (very rough but was able to make it back to the garage) I have no clue what is wrong, and it is very annoying not having a Go Kart during the peak time to use it. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

Ummmm... What do you mean by that? Are they bad engines? It seemed to be a good engine until I screwed with it, so I do feel that it is something with the carb.

I have never had a Tec. So I try not to just Parrot all the crap people talk about them.
But recently it is the same story over and over and over. Apparently they are fine engines. But getting them to start and run is a giant PITA. and from what I have gathered the Carbs are Junk by design.
Sorry to be the one to say it, but you have a piece of junk engine and unless you have the patience of Job and are an excellent small engine mechanic... throw the whole thing in the trash and buy a Honda or Clone motor.

Sorry for the bad quality, but I couldn't get any good light. I'll also link the Amazon page where I got the carb: https://www.amazon.com/CARBURETOR-TECUMSEH-640025-OHH55-OHH60/dp/B00AYKINVE?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0

Well the only thing is is that it ran fine before. I put a BRAND NEW carb in and it doesnt work. So I would like to think it's another factor, but I may be wrong

I didn't see a pic of the actual carb....but the one you posted a link to doesn't have an idle screw!

(It's why I asked.) The sad thing is....you shouldn't have ever touched that carb!

It's what is wrong with it...no question.

And not to beat up on you...but would you pull a carb off a perfectly good car to clean it ? Just because you figured it hadn't been done before?

There's a reason for the saying: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Oh jeez, I don't know what happened with the picture, but rest assured, it does have an idle screw. Here it is: http://imgur.com/jNFDNoi

Yeah....still no idle mixture screw...just a throttle stop screw...which does nothing but control how far the butterfly closes.

Now...under that black plastic cap is an idle JET. It is non-adjustable however, and needs to be fully seated. (That's not the one you messed with is it?)

BTW: Those carbs are plug and play...and just because the old one took ten primes, the new one should only take 3.

Early Tecumseh engines were good, even great engines--some say even better than the exalted Briggs but in later years as the company struggled they started making some cheap, nasty little engines that were not up to par.

Now Tecumseh is largely defunct but may still linger along on life-support. Parts are still plentiful I hear...

A new replacement carb's not going to be perfectly setup from the factory I don't believe. He needs to have a baseline to go from--the initial adjustments one has to make for a new carburetor or one that has been reassembled.

It could be set too rich or too lean or a whole host of other problems could be in play upsetting the chemical/mechanical romance that must take place for the engine to run.

Consider it all a learning experience but if you take the easy way out (The Harbor Freight option), you'll be vanquished, my friend.
