Personally, I think it is going to be a lot cheaper for you (if that is what you are going for) if you get a frame off Craigslist and build it up from there. Things can get pretty expensive when building from scratch.

The Powerland engine that you have linked has been bought by about 4 of the members here on the site already. They look like they should be fine. You can see the engine Joe bought, as well as the internals, here

This is ^ cheaper. Now I hate that, cause it is not DIY, but trust me that is a lot harder to build than you think,

Hey I really appreciate your wise words. Cuz I don't have tons of money to sink in to a kart. I think im going to check into that engine some more cuz that I can afford!!:thumbsup:

I have a reasonable amount of fabrication experience, but all the time that would go into fitment, prep, and welding on a chassis just doesn't make sense, when there are so many good used options. You'll be hard-pressed to design something better than most of the 'standard' chassis.

A kart chassis is a fantastic project, if your primary goal is to fabricate something. If your primary goal is to drive a kart, just pick up something used, and save time/money.

The Trax II is a fun little kart, bit rough without suspension . Not to hard to build if you have a little fab skills or willing to learn. Cost wise to many variables but I would say on cheap side about 1k with nothing fancy and a lot of scrounging. This one has 6.5 with tav2 and it does ok

ok 1k is more than I wanna spend.. If I did do it I was thinkin of a 13 hp with a torque converter but that would bring the cost up too.. so I guess I start lookoing around..:thumbsup: problem is that karting isn't a big thing around here.. you guys should move to Pennsylvania!!!!! Haha:lolgoku:

Yep that is a problem, nothing is cheap any more when buying new parts and it's all the little stuff that adds up. On this one I ran the Honda GX390 with the 40 series CVT for a while, went like heck but would beat the heck out of me and at the time it had 17" tall super turf tires . It's a lot better now with 20" knobby tires and lighter engine but it's lacking power on hills

yea I garuntee it!!! the piece of junk kart I have now is shot because of beating the crap out of it. So that is why I was checking around.

You guys say check on craiglist and I agree with you.. I like them they do have good stuff.. But I don't know if yous ever heard of Letgo. If you didn't check it out for karts. THey have Loads of them!! But all far from me:mad::mad: Just thot id bring that out...

You gotta look in the *surrounding areas* while on Craigslist. I checked the Lancaster area on your behalf and saw plenty of karts in various types and conditions. You have to be patient sometimes and check for several weeks or more to see new ads...

By all means, show us links to individual karts. That's an excellent idea; to bounce potential buys off the forum (get opinions) before you pull the trigger.

That Murray kart looks decent for $250. Honest description of its flaws--just needs a carb cleaning and some welding done.

I edited my post because I thought none of your links worked. The Letgo link just takes me to my state, not yours, and shows no kart. The CL link works though.

I figure any kart, running or not that has wheels, seat and steering wheel is at least $100. But don't offer without seeing it in person first... but I dunno... $200-250?

Always look for other defects that the owner failed to list. Like if the bearings are all seized and it barely rolls. Go from there with your lowball offer.
