Back in the day, they didn't have aftermarket cams. So they "reground" stock cams. They basically remade the shape, smaller, than took up the slack with longer pushrods or lash caps. They never welded them larger though.

Not to mention most are cast iron and not easily weldable, and they require special equipment to get a mirror finish on them.

Now there you go.....letting common sense, common knowledge, and logic stand in the way of young, dumb , and full of........C'mon man....innovation. Hush yo mouth!!!! "But baby! I'm talking about Shaft!" Jack Shaft!

He's redesigning everything else.....sooooo....no longer gonna be called "jackshafts" ...either "jerkshafts" or "jackA$$ideas"...in the new BDL catalog...along with the new FR15 grind cams.

Now that's the type of wise explanations and info i'm looking for.

i'm still going to try and let y'all know how it goes when this welding machine shows. i'll even go far as video segments.

Good grief. Really?

You'll need only one video for this. The minute you try it... that will eat itself alive inside that engine... and coupled with the GOOO you already showed coming out of it... it'll be the dreaded "alien blood" I've seen numerous times (It's black/chrome lookin) when an engine just gives up... gives you the finger (in your oh-so-special case... the jackshaft)

...and goes POP!@

Have fun with that. At least it'll blow up and you'll have nothing to talk about any more... and we'll all be so torn up by it.

Side note: Tell me if you don't find this absolutely interesting. Did you know, that when people reply to a post you're involved in... they all get a notice informing them of your status? Yessir, they're like doctors notes that let other doctors know just what they're dealing with... or in some cases, naughty notes found in pet grooming places. Let's em know that this dog bites... or humps one's leg, nifty stuff like that.

Something is wrong here Kelly....I hit the "Thanks" button 12 times but it only worked ONCE!

Can you imagine what Brett....(among others) ....that really, actually know their way around an engine and precision equipment are thinking now?

I imagine this is gonna make Brett run out and buy a "Macrometer"...he assuredly already has a "mike" but it probably doesn't have the ability to measure "macro" mistakes only "micro" ones!

He11, I know what I'm thinking. Sex (relations) ain't no fun without lube...it's gonna take like 53 rubbers to come close to a smooth surface after... um... WELDING a CAM?

Engine go bye bye.

What do you guys think about welding on top of a camshaft and then grinding it down to the desired lift and duration along with cutting and re-welding the cam to adjust the centerline ?

i'm still going to try and let y'all know how it goes when this welding machine shows.

Why do Y'all fall for this? Everytime it the same!!!
"What do you think?"
followed by
"I'm gonna do it anyway"

Its like the 16yr old Drug addict loser who asks to borrow Moms Minivan....
When no matter what she says, He is gonna steal it anyway!!!
:2guns: ::::::: :auto:
[edit] great I've posted here... now I have to go and change my sig line!!!!!!:furious2:

Why???? You're denser than lead...and never listen anyway....if you could read and interpret what's being posted....you would understand he's just saying "BLESS YOUR. HEART " in the most subtle way possible! Thanks a lot for making me change my definition of that saying
...because I can't begin to call you out in normal terms on a family friendly forum!

BTW: Refer to post #98!

thanks but i think i need more torque to go with that. I may need to wait for the Blak Mamba sr. to come back out.

Maybe at A machine shop that specializes in this sort of thing. Maybe not. I dunno... but
A guy like us with a welder and an angle grinder in his Garage, Is not going to get the precision needed.

Nope....well...let me rephrase that:NOPE!!!! See...it's not just the welding that's a problem....you lack the ability and equipment to pull it off. Basically...as the saying goes: you don't stand a snowball's chancer in He77 to pull it off.

Just thinking you can shows a deep void in knowledge. Put it this way: you must intimately understand something before you can improve it...(and you don't....but even IF you did...you simply DON'T have the tools to make it happen.

Let's take one small analogy of a very small piece of a very complex machine for an example: in the 60's "rails" were front engine machines that smoked the tires almost all the way down the track. Now..."top fuel dragsters" don't smoke the tires unless something goes wrong. Besides the suspension design, the rear engines, the better tires and the top crew chiefs...one little itsy bitsty thing that can escape attention unless attention is paid is the rear tires...despite the fact that years of development have gone into thr development of the rubber compounds to make thrse tires grip...there's a very simple yet ingenious action that goes on there....

These things are nearly flat at take off....giving extra traction...but as they "spool up"...something else happens you can see in slow motion...the "footprint" of these slicks becomes smaller...while the diameter increases dramatically....essentially...an extra gear!

So...unless you REALLY study something..and understand where it started...and where it is now...you are just as likely to follow the road of past failure as blaze a trail through new territory! !!! Sorry...but that's the truth...if you want to buck the status quo....first...you have to know and understand it....

And being unable to capitalize or punctuate properly in a simple post....does NOT inspire confidence in me that you even have a clue....

Just to start with: what lift/duration / and lobe separation are you starting with....and what are your target numbers...and why?
